Hey people, will start a project for my build soon, but I want to use this thread to sort and finalise everything before I purchase.

Im building a gaming rig for the latest games. I play all sorts from FPS to Strategy games. I wish to play all upcoming games into the next couple of years so im hoping this machine will allow me to get full potential for all the games i play.

Starting with what ive finalised and picked out so far follows.

CPU - I5 2500K http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-368-IN

GPU - GTX 550Ti http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-131-MS

MOBO - Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 Intel Z68 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-368-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990

PSU - Antec TruePower New Modular 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supplyhttp://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-117-AN

RAM - G-Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.5V - Im buying on another site due to it being cheaper by £10
CASE - NZXT Guardian 921RB - google it

What I'm not sure on is a hard drive and dvd drive and is there anything else im missing??

All suggestions, compliments and cheaper or dearer alternatives will be taken into consideration.

Thanks all.

the GTX 550Ti i mean, its better than both those you linked.

also the hard drive i linked is faster than that you linked lol.
unless the lower the seek time is the better??

The WD blue seek time is 8.9ms

The Seagate is 8.5ms

So the Seagate is lower, vus faster;)

The Smasung F3/Seagate barracuda 7200.12 and WD Black are the three "performance drives"

AHH rite ok, i may rethink which card then. ok no worries. thanks.

As for ram, im strugling to find low profile ram, or will i need low profile with that case im getting.

The case wont matter for the RAM, sometimes the aftermarket CPU cooler can interfere with tall RAM.

If you use the stock intel heatsink it wont be a problem

If you want to get a closed loop water cooler such as a Corsair H60/Antec kuhler, it wont matter.

If you fit a aftermarket heatsink then you can place the RAM in the slots 2+4 (from the cpu socket) to give more room.

If you get a water cooler you can fit any RAM you want:) the CPU head/pump thingy wont be anywhere near the RAM slots.

Even a modest sized aftermarket cooler will be ok if you just fit the RAM away from the CPU socket.

been looking at gpu's again, looking at 6870 and the 560ti but again no idea what to go with.

If it was clear cut then it would be easier, but with fan boys for nvidia and fan boys for ati it makes choosing no good at all.

Then the argument that this is better and thats better, pain in the butt if you ask me.

Research yourself then.

Anandtech and tom's hardware might have details on the cards so you can compare them yourself.

They will most probably perform differently in their own way, depends which suits you

Seems ok:)

But that ASUS GTX560ti is on a today only deal so will jump back up to £200 by 09.00hrs, that puts it well into 6950 2GB card territory.
