Its a few thousand miles late according to the stamps, but still has 2 green lights on, so i thought i would service it to make sure.

I know it needs a new wiper stalk and a rear brake light bulb, but as usual im sure something else will be picked up on and will cost me money!

Now, who would like to guess the total cost of the service?
Ill be paying when i pick it up, around 5.30pm.

1998 E36 BMW 323i SE Auto, done 100k miles. Its not being serviced by BMW, but a decent indy instead.

Ill help you along... Service on its own = £150, BMW part wiper stalk = £60 (thankfully im not getting it from BMW tho, so its going to be significantly cheaper)..

I think the car is in good condition, so should be minimal other things to be done.

Any guesses?

£198 + about £4 for screen wash

I hate the screenwash scam, I can buy a huge bottle for the amount they charge for a tiny topup.

to add some spice...

New pads and discs (inc VAT and of course fitting). mine are 3mm under minimum, making it an advisory and tbh has to be done..

bugger!!

haha, your loving the screenwash :p

tho there is another £4 charge.... 3 bulbs, ive got clears in my rear m3 lights and a brake light out.
so you were right about the £4 :p

Just had my Audi serviced and it came to £295 just for a standard service with no extra work so I would have thought BMW would charge a simular amount at thier dealerships.

Including the brake pads and discs, hmm more like £350+

Would imagine so, service + wiper = £170, discs and pads are at cheapest about £45 each (just parts).
im now hoping that all other checks are done and there is nothing else that needs doing! would like to keep this under £400

Yeah!... I once took a car for a service on a monday (this was YEARS ago) and had only filled up the screenwash at the weekend... Picked up the car and on the bill.........

Yep You've Guessed it.............

Screen wash £3.50!..

Needless to say I wasn't happy (I know it was only £3.50 but its the principal!!)... I complained and got a small bottle (5x servings of concentrate) of MG/Rover Screenwash for free :D

Ooo BOT... I recon now its gonna be £326.41p

thankfully this isnt at a BMW stealer, otherwise yes, it would have been similar for service alone, wiper would have been £60, brakes would have been £250+(and then VAT)!

I would not have used a main dealer myself if the car was more than say 4 years old but upto then I want to keep the Audi service history up which means I will have to pay a premium.
