My case noise has been weird.

G day,

I had my Antec900 for a while now, and recenly I bought a new harddrive. once my harddrive was installed, my case made a lot more noise. I assumed becase the 2nd harddrive blocked the airflow, making more noise.

now, a few minutes ago my case is as silent as it used to be, but sometimes it makes more noise

the noise is NOT my cpu or gpu, because I control their fan speeds, and they don't make noise. The Antec900 fans are the noise makers.

Anyways, why could this be? all fan speeds are on low, and now, while typing this every minute the fans make more noise for a few seconds, and then go down again. I checked, and I dont see anything touching the fans in any way, all fans in my pc are still working.

EDIT: it keeps fluctuating

Its really annoying. I want it to be quiet, but the fluctuating can't be a good sign. I know as long as my cpu and gpu fans are working I shouldnt really worry, but still.

also I keep an eye on my temps using speedfan and rivatuner.

Could it be a shortcut in the fan speed regulators for my case?

erm, mabye its loose? what kind of noise, is it like faster or some insane sound.

got all 4 of the fans on MAX, i love the sound ;D might get some of those 190 CFM fans :D

Well, the fans arent lose.

The problem started ever since I got my new harddrive. Maybe the power to the harddrive somehow... nm this sounds like science fiction.

Well pc has been off all night, and now its the same as last night. I don't mind too much, because now its silent ish again. still I wanna know why its happening.

Could be vibration from the hard drive being transferred into the case. My Lian Li case vibrates horribly unless I completely isolate the hard drives from the case.

its definately fan noise.

Could it be my psu? so that the fans dont get enough power, or too much power perhaps?

Some of these new HDD are louder than the old ones just writing and reading. My 500GB Seagate is far noisers than my old 320GB seagate

It could be resonance. Isolate the hard drive from the case with some fabric or rubber washers, anything that will stop the metal-metal contact. I know exactly what you mean, i have a full tower that resonates and it drove me nuts trying to find it.

thanks, but I think I didnt explain it well.

Day 1 -100 : low fan noise.
day 101: installed harddrive : lots of fan noise
day 102-130: lots of fan noise
day 131: low noise again, with ocasionally the fans making a bit of noise, and then less noise again ( per minute, 1-3 seconds of loud fan noise)

maybe some sort of flying critter has been sucked into it? moth, ladybird or something like that they make weird noises once inside a pc. i had a tiny moth in mine and i thought one of my case fans was dying it just sounded weird but after awile it went away, then when cleaning it one day i spotted a small dead moth in it.

I had the same problem with an Akasa fan controller(the one that came with the 2 cathodes)

I found that the dial had to be set just right or the fans speed would fluctuate every now and again, Often when the controllers pcb heated up after a few hours.

ok thanks. well so far its still silent, with the occasional noise, but its still better than the noise before. So I am kinda happy.

The main thing I am (was) worried about, is that something could short circuit, and damage my mobo.
