My cats are snobs!

Hi

I have 2 x tabby cats. They have always been fed Whiskas dry cat food. Yesterday we ran out and it was pretty late with only a hand full of shops open.

I bought Vitacat dry cat food, and neither cat will touch it, they are hungry and are wanting feeding, but they are refusing to touch this cat food.

Our cat Archie eats almost anything - the only thing he's refused is Vitacat dry food. He's quite happy with the Vitacat Select pouches but the dry food ended up in the bin.

I know Whiskas isn't the best food, but they eat that, and won't eat owt else. Except for wet food, but they have the runs with wet food - high end brands like Shiba and even cheap stuff.

I prefer to give them dry food as it sits better with them. But they will only do Whiskas, I tried some expensive stuff (85% meat I think) from the vets before and they wouldn't eat that either.

I bought high quality Animonda Carny and Bozita and mine weren't that fussed and seem to prefer poor quality Whiskas :(.

Our are the same - woofed it down for a week or two so we bought a box full - Won't touch it now - fussy little devils.

They will eat anything you are eating off your plate so save bit's for them.

Ronnie likes Marmite on his toast :)

Was just going to post similar, i feel sorry for cats that get fed whiskas isnt it something like 8% meat.
Ours gets Applaws which is 80% with no added rubbish unlike whiskas.

Its really not, Whiskas should be ashamed of themselves passing it off as food.
Spot on. Whiskas is terrible, as is most of the supermarket cat foods. Dry food is also worse than wet food, but obviously decent quality dry food is better than rubbish wet food. Natural, high protein and grain free food is becoming more common which is good though. I currently feed my two Applaws and Natures Menu.

The best way to change foods is a slow swap, mixing in a small amount at a time. Cats can be stupidly stubbon, but eventually they'll just get on with it and eat it. It took me a few weeks.

Vet always tells us to feed our cats on the "kitten" foods as they tend to have more protein in them and less "vegetables/rice". Our cats are both old though and tend to get what we won't eat too most nights so chicken/tuna etc regularly too.

Now you see, I wouldn't have caved and I'd have kept the "new" food down until they ate it. Cats don't need more reasons to think they're boss!

Well my oldest cat is 12, and has zero health issues, always been fed Whiskas dry food and has never had a single thing wrong with her, she has an annual checkup and not once has the vet found a single issue.

Ours have Sheba pouches and iams dry and woe betide me if I try to give them an alternative. We used to only give them the high (70-80℅) meat content dry food but it was too expensive long term. Weening them off that was a mission.

They proper love the Sheba though. Rustle a pouch at the back door and they come running from wherever they are.

They will also meow away when I carve a roast beef or pork joint until they have their fill. Try giving them some turkey or chicken though and I get the evils. They would rather not eat unless it's what they like.

That's great :). My in-laws cat is 21, eats Go Cat and hasn't been to the vet in 10+ years. I'm not saying if you feed them rubbish food they'll be ill and have health issues, but it is simply better for them and they are less likely to have health issues related to poor food. Dry food specifically can lead to urine problems for them. I'm not suggesting anyone that uses Whiskas and other big brands is a bad owner either, but cats are untimately dumb when it comes to the food they eat. I chose to give mine good quality food in the hope that their body feels better for it :).

I have 2 house cats and they aren't fussed, will literally eat anything however ham and cream doesnt sit well with them they end up doing the runs. However our 3rd cat (outdoor cat) will only eat her special food (she has food allergies), and will turn her nose up at anything else.

Another reason why dogs are better than cats - they will literally eat poo.

(probably the only time that "skill" is seen as a benefit, unless you're really kinky).

It got me thinking.... about why... I don't really understand. Surely dry cat food is all very similiar in taste (not that I'm going to try) I always thought the differences were mostly the nutrient content etc.

Cmon you pansy, try it!

But don't try black dog biscuits :/ they have charcoal in them and don't taste nice. The green and white ones were half decent :p

I've found zooplus great for trying smaller bags of dry/wet food.
Trying our has proven one thing... Felix AGAIL is apparantly the best wet food ever :( Tried them on some daft expensive stuff too and they just walk away haha
