Its a pc, Ive got £630-£680 to spend on a Computer tower. I will be using it to do my work on it such as CG imagery and also play high demanding video games such as Crysis and COD4. I've already got a 19" monitor running at 1280x1024 and I've already got vista too. Also is it worth getting a Cheapish Quad-core or go for a powerful Dual-core.
Thanks guys.

i say powerful dual core as a quad core will remove some graphics budget, but if the cg will use quad core and that is your main use then you should go with quad

hmm should really go for the quad then.

cheapest quad core
4gb ram
500gb hdd
8800 graphics (or 3870)
a case

that is a start i guess, if you dont want a case then you can get a bigger monitor :D

so thinking of getting:

quad core with a good cpu cooler
motherboard
gfx card
ram
case
hdd
dvd drive
psu

not getting a monitor get that later on

This would be a good overclocking setup. I can squeeze 4 GiB RAM into the budget at the expense of the case if you prefer. :)

with that setup i'd really suggest getting the 3870 as it is only a bit more expensive and gives much better performance, almost on par with an 8800 but not quite. also could get a cheaper cpu cooler - freezer 64?

edit: whoops just seen the above posts. yeah i'd try and get an 8800 as it really is the best card atm, however the 3870 is only a bit behind it and can be used in crossfire :D

GT, it's a newer revision and is faster and cheaper.

In a few weeks the new GTS will be out to restore order to nVidia's lineup. I'd go for the GT anyway with a budget like yours.

Wait till after xmas, and watch all the prices drop :)
GT will drop 20-30 once people actually get them stocked, new processors and graphics cards will be released. Ahh good times in 2008, why by now :p
