my computer has been attacked (trojan software issue)

Yesterday I did some anti virus and anti malware scans because my computer and my internet browser have been slower than usual.

They found a Trojan virus and a spy bot.

After I did the scans, I looked up on the internet about what a Trojan virus does and it said something along the lines of " a Trojan can be used to access personal information or to destroy files on your computer"

I then out of concern went to check on an important document on my computer
which has a number of personal security related things and information on it.

now I cannot access it, It is an opened office document and I get this error now

[read - error file format error found at 345,7 (row , col.]

all my other opened office documents of the same type are fine.
this document which I cannot access now however specifies in its name
that important information is on it for convenience sake.
I have recovered the information however , thankfully.

Would I be correct in assuming that this information has been stolen ?

(I am sorry , I did not mean for this to post twice, could you please delete the other thread of the same name, sorry for inconveniencing you admins / moderators )

I think it could just be coincidence to be honest with you, We have all had trojan's on our
systems at some point in the past and most people now use internet banking as well.

I personally do a lot of internet banking and never had information stolen, I have had files
go corrupt though Via virus's on the system and other types of infections, just because
the file was not accessible don't mean that the information has been stolen m8.

Personally if you are worried about Trojans/Virus's and other harmful things getting your
information then you shouldn't be leaving a file on the system that it can potentially
steal though to be honest, Why don't you have a note pad/book with your information in,
that wont go corrupt.

Thanks for the advice,I just did it that way for convenience sake at the time.
and because I am changing the passwords every so often for security reasons.
and because I was been lazy.
the same file was on a flash drive (which has always been plugged into the computer)
but it also got corrupted.
I will just keep it all written down from now on though, like you suggested, which I probably should have done originally, from the beginning,
cheers.
