It turns out that my pc can't install ubuntu because my components are to new and unsupported for it, I get that dreaded hanging after "Uncompressing Linux.. OK, installing kernel" screen anyone else got this problem and found a way round it?

My PC is of a similar spec, and so is my work machine and thats fine ?

what version you installing? edgy eft?

TBH I think he got a new PC since the one in his sig. Ive got the same CPU and Video card. Using Arch Linux right now!

Nope, the specs in my sig are the ones.

I have tried installing 6.10 and that also gives me the same annoying hanging.

Still haven't found a way around this

Bit of a long shot, but have tried uplugging any non essential hardware (usb) etc..

You could try a chroot install, and not bother with the livecd... then recompile a custom kernel and boot into that. You may come up with the same problem again though. Its kinda hard to see what is going wrong without proper debug/error messages.

You could also try disable ACPI in the bios and/or regenerating innitrd or passing noacpi to the bootloader.
