I've had a few people tell me I'm sending spam to them from my hotmail account. I've searched my machine with every free scanning tool I can think of (all the major AV companies, Spybot, malware bytes, ad-aware) and I can't find anything!

Any ideas?

If they have your hotmail username and password they can be sending spam from anywhere. So your computer could be completely clean.

I would suggest changing your hotmail password on a computer you have throroughly checked. Problem should go away. Although they may of course just be spoofing your email address - nothing to stop them doing that.

i'd also download and run combofix.exe from bleeping computers that usually finds and sneaky rootkits - incase you got keylogged instead of a simple password guess

:o

Right changed that now and all that jazz, thanks.

I have Win 7 x64 so I don't think that software is applicable, thanks anyway

It's probably just someone faking the 'From' field with your email address, that's a common spammer tactic.

It was friends, presumably people from his address book, that told him he was sending spam. That suggests he has in the very least had his address book nicked.

Remember don't just change your password, you need to change your security questions(s) and possibly alternate EMail address to prevent the account being hijacked again :).

yup done that :)

I had a look around the account and the last message sent was actually part of my signature so it looks like its a blank body with the spam in the sig :S

I had exactly the same thing a couple of weeks ago, I assume it was someone faking the 'From' field, however I dont know how they managed to steal my address book? Anyone have any ideas about that?
