My Condemned 2 has been shipped

I've been playing this over the weekend and I think its very good. As good as the original. I like the new combat system and the story is also very good. Not as scary as the original so far but pretty sick in places. The investigation part of the game has massively improved which gives the game a nice change of pace every so often. The frame rate is fairly smooth throughout but once or twice has been a little choppy.

8.5/10 for me.

I can't make my mind up with this game atm. I'm at the police station level atm...

1. It is as scary as Condemned.
2. The three main characters from part one are all here, except Ethan and Rosa have lost a colossal amount of weight and look different. Wtf was this done? Bring back fat rosa and tubby from heroes plz!
3. Guns are more prominent, but are pretty crap at the same time luckily.
4. The investigation side of things are really good.
5. Melee combat has all these stupid pointless combo moves/modes that detract from the combat that made Condemned so much fun.
6. The devs went overboard on the whole 'Ethan is a bit of a loony drunkard' theme. He keeps seeing visions and the screen goes dark/foggy etc - this happens too much and just gets on my nerves.
7. A lot of levels/areas are just way too dark and you can barely make out your enemies.
8. That torch is ******* useless.

Points 7 & 8, make it feel like Doom 3 at times, especially on the level I just finished where I could barely see what was attacking me, let alone where it came from. The environments you trundle through are really well designed and very atmospheric, yet some are too large. The scares are there aplenty and this is the reason why I'm going through the game slowly.

So far it is a good game, but I don't rate it as high as the first one.

I haven't found it too dark at all. Did you adjust the settings at the beginning when you first played the game as by default the screen was too dark, I couldn't see any of the eyes on the wall at all. I havent had a problem with the darkness at all and the torch light is perfect. Strange.

The whole weight issue seems right to me. Is it not an 11 month timeline from the first game? If so you would think that living as a bum as Ethan has been he would lose weight. Also, Rosa losing weight isn't really unbelievable, you know what women are like.

Guns have not been an issue for me. I didn't use a gun at all until the very end of the lodge level, you'll know what I mean when you get there.

The visions and hallucinations I think will be explained further in a third game even though as the story unfolds in later levels it makes more sense anyway.

The combat I think is a bit Marmite, you either love it or hate it. I love it but can see why others don't.

As I said before I don't think it's as scary as the 1st game, probably because I more or less know what to expect. Only a couple of times have I been genuinely scared. I won't mention them because it will spoil it for others.

Should finish it tonight and then I'll play through again on hard and also get all gold ratings methinks.
