WARNING LONG POST - but please take time to read there are a couple of questions at the end.

I've always been a PC gamer through and through all my life. I have never owned a console before (Wifey bought me a PSP a year ago, does that count?) and was reading on the DVDforums that Gamescubes was going cheap.

I was in bath and saw a deal of a GC + 4games for £42, bought a second controller and 3 more games and the total was £90. Took it home and set the whole thing up and started playing.

Soul Calibre 2
MarioKart Doule Dash
Burnout 2
Star Wars Rouge Sq
Timesplitters 2
etc

I found these to be ok with only Mario only being really fun for a while. I was surprised at how rubbish the picture quality was on my Tosh 40" widescreen set, very blurry with a lot of fizzing. And i wasn't happy how many games weren't in widescreen, only SC2 was. And i released how bad controlling FPS were on a consoles after many years of using the mouse and keyboard combination.

So this weekend i took the whole thing back and got store credit along with some DVD's. Looking around i was they were selling an Xbox for £65 brand new. so i thought, buy the hardware new and get the games second hand. There were so many games to choose from and more my kind of games. Also the games that have been released on all formats were much cheaper on the Xbox second hand. (example, Burnout 3 was never released on GC but was cheaper on the Xbox then Burnout 2 on the GC).

Picture quality was so much better then the GC and almost ALL the games were in widescreen I felt I got the right console for me at last.

Question 1 - I have a Tosh 40" widescreen RPTV with Sony Amp and surround sound. What’s the best way to hook this up for best Video and Audio? I heard there's something called the 'AV pack' were can i get this and what does this contain?

Question 2 - What games do you recommend? I don't want FPS but I’m into Fighting and driving games. Also I’m not interested in games that i can get for the PC because if it is available then I will get it for the PC. So far I’ve got

Project Gotham Racing 2
Forza Motorsport
Burnout 3:Takedown
Soul Calibur II
Dead or Alive 3
Super Monkey Ball Deluxe
Mortal Kombat: Deception

And i'm thinking of getting:

Ninja Gaiden Black
Jet Set Radio Future
MechAssault 2
Battlestar Galatica

Any more recommendations? Are there any decent flight games? Thanks people for reading

For best Picture and Audio:

Advanced AV Cable, this has RGB SCART and Optical 5.1 output.

Best Games:
Knights of the Old Republic
Knights of the Old Republic II (Can get both of these on PC, but they're worth it nomatter what format you buy)
Jade Empire
Forza Motorsport
Ninja Gaiden Black
Rallysport Challenge 2
Project Gotham Racing
Project Gotham Racing 2
Dead or Alive 3

Ones I really enjoyed and haven't already been mentioned...

Beyond Good and Evil
Project Zero 1 and 2
Pirates of the Caribbean
Prince of Persia

If some of these were PC games you've already played, apologies. I've been away from PC gaming a while now.

I thought BSG was utter rubbish, truly appalling.
Secret weapons over Normandy was good though and crimson skies as well.

Thanks for the ideas people i've actually played most of them on the PC already (currently on Beyond Good and Evil) but Jade Empire sounds intresting and it's had good reviews, might give it a shot

Sad to hear that BSG is crap, looked like my kind of game

Whats Panzer Dragoon Orta like?

I did not really like Panzer dragoon much either.
It might be worth your while joining a rental scheme to try before you buy, it's been good for me.
