My CPU gets so hot?! :(

When I'm running Bad Company 2, my CPU hits temperatures of 75'c! (I swear the max temp for this CPU is 71)

(i5 2500k 3.4GHz)

This surely ain't right. I have it overclocked to 4.1GHz, do you think dropping that down will keep my CPU on the cooler side?

My heatsink is the artic cooling 7 one I think.

Any suggestions?

75c is not to bad, would like to see it slightly cooler, but I would not worry.

The max temp on Intels website is the T case temps and not the actual core temps.

Those temps are fine! My Q6600 reaches that on 2.8 ;)
If you are really worried though, get a Corsair H70 liquid cooling system or a Venom.

but a 2500K is a much cooler chip, tbh i would be concerned if it was getting that high on 32nm

i had a q8200 that was ~80 degrees at idle :p

you have two solutions:
1. reduce the voltage and the clock on the processor
2. get a better cooler. we will need to know what case you have, what ram you have and what cooler you have now (theres no point recommending the corsair A50 if you already have the gelid tranquillo for example)

your temps should not exceed 50c to 55c on a hot day playing bfbc2.
my i5 2500k @ 4.5 when maxed out (prime95 = every core running at 100%) the temps are between 65c to 68c.thanks to my thermalright ultima90 cooler, with the hyper 212plus (cheap cooler) my temps were in the 70's.

btw what is your cpu voltage ?

Get a better cooler, Hyper 212+ is good for cheap, or if you want a lot better, go with a Silver Arrow.

Check the vcore, try dropping it as much as you can without destabilizing the OC. And remember, it's a warm summer. Those will affect temps.

I am using a Hyper 212+ and have it dynamically clocked at 5GHz x1, 4.8GHz, x2, 4.6GHz x3, and 4.5GHz x4 @ 1.28V and temps are high 60s low 70s during BC2

This is normal for the cooler. It's intended to be a cooler quieter replacement to the stock intel cooler - at stock speeds.

Not suitable for overclocking. I don't like mucking about with coolers once they're fitted, I'd downclock it.

I would re-seat the cooler, re-applying the TIM. Those temps, whilst not dangerous, are far from ideal.

Although we don't know much about you. For all we know you could be keeping your rig in a glass greenhouse, in which case, those temps would seem accurate :P
