Hi guys, this is a quick update on my dad for all of you that read the 'Saved by virgin' thread that i made around 5 to 6 months ago.

for all of you that haven't read it, he was basically crushed between his van and a car, because a guy drove straight into him.

He has been bed riden for the past 6 months with scares of infections and MRSA (which he has amazingly recovered from through a special treatment he was given). for an active man it has been hard for him to handle this and he has had a few depressing times, where we have tried our best to comfort him.

during the past week he has had an infection of his bone, where it was rotting because no blood supply was being sent to it (doctors missed this in the x rays and scans). he was sent into hospital and had around 4 inches of rotting bone removed and luckily the rest of the bone was ok. this edged the doctors to then fit the long awaited ilazarov frame, which grows the bone, but due to the 4 inches of missing bone, they had to break the leg again just under the knee and pull it down and the ilazarov frame should help the bone grow from both ends (this will take around 12-13 months. but the good side of the frame is that it gives him the chance to walk, as he can support his body on the leg using the frame, which he is so happy about because he can start to get some mobility back.

He has now been through 15 operations, including moving a muscle from his back to his leg, moving an artery from the left leg to the right and many others to help the leg heal.

The insurance company have been very good to give my dad the stuff he needs, such as an orthopaedic bed and chair. and a wheelchair is being processed now for him to get out and about a bit more.

i would like to say thank you to all of you that commented in my last thread, you guys helped me to get through the worst part with your nice comments and gave me hope that he would recover. There is still a long road until recovery, but he is on that road and speeding through it very quickly.

(once again, excuse my punctuation and spelling)

Glad things are going well. What happened about the guy who drove in to your dad?

well nothing so far, he been stopped from driving but nothing else that i can see or have heard.

a few weeks ago he was sitting on the wall outside of our house as my dad was being taken to hospital by the ambulance service, he had the cheek to say 'good morning' with a big smile on his face.

but i suppose you can't stop people from being like that.

Crikey, good to see that your dad pulled through. Best of British luck with the rest of it. He must be very proud of you and your support. :)

Glad to hear he is doing well buddy :)

I would have punched the smile off his face! What a douchebag!
