Just wanted to share with you, some of the problems I have had with Dell
I bought an xps M1710 laptop from them in August 2006, and it was a nice piece of kit except for the fact it didnt sit level on a table. So they took it back to repair, lost it, made me wait 1.5 months for a replacement, and gave me a printer as compensation (I soon found out the cost of their ink makes the printer a poor gesture).
I then had 3 minor problems between that and may this year, which they took care of.
In may this year the laptop kept shutting down due to overheating. The GPU core was running at 107 degrees highest so I suspect this was the problem. They replaced the video card, the enginner also noticed there was no coin cell battery fitted so booked a job to fit one the next day.. Same day, huge graphical issues, couldnt boot to windows, screen was gibberish. Rang tech support who told me it was the motherboard and they were replacing that with the coin cell battery the next day anyway so this would fix my problem.
Next day the enginner turns up, says hes only been booked for 15 mins to fit the battery and he cant do the motherboard in that way, also that he would bet his house on it not being the motherboard anyway.
At this point I got a bit annoyed, and rang tech support who agreed to build me a new laptop. This was on the 29th May.
Between then and now Ive tried to find out what the hell is happening, and spent hours and hours on the phone to different people who kept telling me different things..
This eventually culminated with a letter to Dell head office in bracknell, to which I had a reply on saturday 13th telling me they were giving me a refund
They collected my laptop on the tuesday following that, and thats the last i heard of it. I rang them monday and the person i spoke to said they didnt know anything about any refund, and would get someone to call me back, no one did.
I rang again today and spoke to someone in ireland who told me that there was a refund due but they needed my bank details.. She is going to apparently ring me back soon to get them (Wasnt at home so didnt know them).
So thats how it stands now, thanks for reading, had to get it out as i dont really want to scream my frustration..
Hopefully I will get my money now (which is, i know, a result considering how old the laptop is), and this is going to extend my new machine budget quite a lot, lol..
Cheers
Hutch
PS, dont buy Dell..
