Please help

just clicked on the show desktop button to minimize all open windows and most of my files i had on my desktop have disappeared

i had videos, personal files etc etc
rebooted PC, still missing

the only thing I can think of that i did a little while ago was delete everything on One-Drive ? as it was full
i deleted everything because i had it all any my hard drive
(i never use one drive, myself, ive left it as default, so if it backs up anything, then thats what its does)

Checked the actual Desktop directory? C:\Users\YourUsername\Desktop

Make sure to enable show hidden files/operating system files just in case you inadvertently goofed something. Yes goofed is a technical term :p

Also, make sure that they aren't hidden by the desktop right-click menu.

Right click on blank desktop - View - make sure 'Show desktop icons' is ticked

ummm
Opened up my recycle bin and its all in there from "One-Drive" location (not desktop WTF?)

currently not logged into One drive it seems

if i log in, will i loose it all ?
how do i restore ?

Highlight files in recycle bin - right click - restore

Assuming they come back, then copy them back to your Desktop under your user account folder and also immediately back the bloody things up! :p

will i need to log into one drive first ?
i hope this is safe, normally i would click on restore, but the fact I deleted from one drive and resetting my password has made my a bit weary lol

I *think* you can drag-and-drop from the recycle bin to a folder of your choice, so drag-and-drop to your user account desktop folder would be the best bet.

***edit***

Yep, just tried it with a file here. Deleted out of Docs, dragged back out onto Desktop.

Is this Windows 10? Have you accidentally clicked on the new desktop link? You can have hundreds of desktops all with different things on.

Edit , ah you found them. Why not login to one drive through the browser and see the status of the files in thee? You've been syncing desktop, documents and pictures with OD and not realised

i moved it all to a desktop folder, and it asked me if i wanted to replace the files, i said keep both (to make sure lol)
and they didnt appear on my "desktop" but they are in the folder
5Gb worth of data

i will back this up now

yep windows 10
What the new desktop link ?

Windows key + Tab gets you into the viewer to see if you have multiple desktops. But I didn't think that did anything about desktop files or icons. I'll happily defer to anyone with greater knowledge!

Some "desktop manager" bloatware -- ahem, I mean "very useful" -- programs which come preinstalled on laptops etc. can do stuff like this. Case in point: a program called "Stardock Fences" can move all your desktop contents. If you're running anything like that, kill it, or check "C:\Users\YourName\Desktop 1", "C:\Users\YourName\Desktop 2" etc.
