My dilema

I have got back from hospital today after having key hole surgery and now feel comfortable enough to drive a manual again. I gave up about 14 months ago after having lots of pain from my ankle which was rebuilt some years ago. The doctors have also given me the all clear.

I only can go to about 4k max if I sell my car so I am out of BMW and Audi territory.

This is my dilema. Do I sell my 2002 Mazda 626 auto and buy a Alfa Romeo 166 3.0 V6. I only work about 2.5 days a week and get 40p a mile for the mileage. Reliability isn't too much of an issue as most repairs I only pay for parts and can be done at the father in laws. Insurance comes out at £198 fully comp by Swiftcover

Or.

Keep the Mazda for business and buy a 1995 Alfa 164 3.0 V6 for £500 (seen and tested a quite a good one thats still available). I can store it round my parents house and only tax it for the summer. Insurance quote of £124 TPFT using my NCB.

Can you use your NCB more than once? Is it a real pain to sort out?

I like both of them to drive.

Dont buy an Alfa 166. They suck hard. A colleague has one, and all I ever here from him, is how much his car is costing him in repairs.

Unfortunately I love Alfa's. I have owned loads over the years and only really had one lemon that was more down to me.

I only mentioned Bm's and Audi's because they would make better day to day cars. Also the money I have to spend they seem to give me the best value.

I know what you mean, I love Alfa's too....but the 166 is a truly awful car!!

Why dont you look into a 156 2.5 V6?

Why discount the Audi or BMW option? I know for sure that you can gat a very decent A6 for less than 4K.

Interesting. Any ideas which companies might have this policy.

MMM, I'm with elephant, got 2 cars, 2 policies, and my NCB applies to both. They ummed and ahhed about it when I phoned them up, but after speaking to some people they said, OK then.

I told them the NCB applied to the driver, not the car and they agreed....
