My Dream CPU - where is it?

I know the older gen AMD's exist, but i just wonder what pevents intel or amd making a 5ghz 8 core monster - im not averse to HT/SMT - but i'd just be happy with 8 physical cores.

Basically voltage requirements and heat output. Sure, a 7700k has a middling chance of reaching 5ghz, but now double the amount of power you're feeding it to give it 8 cores. Consumers have expectations, and one of those is that the cooling solutions in their desktops doesn't sound like a car engine or require liquid nitrogen refills :)

Given that we see 6ghz and up runs under LN2, we know that more cooling enables higher clocks, but handling 8 cores would need something more aggressive than a fan or a water radiator. And even then, it's likely to reduce the lifespan of the chip to not a very long time... there's only so many milivolts you can slam through a microscopic circuit before it fries, no matter how cold you keep it.

AMD are like "Finally the AMD FX-9590 gets a customer!" haha.

I know, meets his spec anyway! :D

With new high IPC chips though I doubt we will see 5Ghz standard overlooking on 8 core until at least 10nm and even then only with high voltage and watercooling.

Why can i not buy an Intel/AMD 8 Core 5GHZ CPU - no HT needed, just raw power in 8 cores?
Sure I have one 5960x left out of three that can do this. The other two sold for around 10K so if you have the money this one is yours.

But it's a magic 8 Pack edition!

Seriously though it's getting hard for CPUs to reach past 5GHz, only the lucky ones can reach it. Maybe when we finally move off silicon to the next thing we'll see more 5ghz+ CPUs.

AMD's Ryzen should hopefully prompt more 8c+ CPUs at a lower price.

But you can make millions from an 8 Pack chip. I bought two and now I finally have enough money to operate above the law.

Buy an X1800, top end x370 motherboard and some of that white Geil RAM.
