Hi My PC was overclocked by some one else and I am left having to learn how to do it my self now.

Any way got a E6400 at the minute which is running at 3.2Ghz + with 1GB Ram on a P5W motherboard.

Just got 4GB off Geil Ram that is on offer at the minute. My main concern is that when I take out my New Ram and put 4GB in that I will loose all the CPU overclock settings which I dont want to do as its running great ! + I dont no how to overclock it.

So will I loose all my settings when putting new Ram in ? as I am sure that I read that the Ram is linked to the actual overclock of the CPU.

One more thing the Ram I have says it will run at 4-4-4-12

How do I get in to the advance options on my P5W to make these settings as I dont see them any were in my Bios ??

thanks for help !!

yeah the settings will stay the same but the new RAM might not be able to function with the current settings. (timings may be too tight, voltage might not be right, frequency might be too high)

never thought of that problem. what settings in the Ram Bios do I need to change to make 4-4-4-12 ??

I am a little confused !

is it the settings you get in CPU-Z were you see CAS#Latency etc ?

thanks for any help

I would have thought setting all the timings to auto when first installing the RAM, if it boots fine then start playing around with them.

Edit/ and to answer your second question ,you will need to change:

CAS# Latency
RAS# to CAS# Latency
RAS# Precharge

and

Cycle time (Tras)

That makes sence mate ! any ideas how you get in to the advanced options to do this ?? there must be some special code or somethen I need to do to get to these settings.

Super fast help on here ! ;)

The easiest way to change it is through the BIOS, search for those settings above - they should be the first ones in the list of the RAM timings.

Edit/ yes, these are the timings ppl state and the ones printed on the RAM box, ie in my case 5-5-5-18

is all these overclock settings I need to change in the standard Bios you boot to via pressing delete or is there another advanced Bios I need to Boot to ??

I dont have your mobo so cant be sure, but the settings to be tweaked should just be in the BIOS screen by pressing DEL on startup.

If not, there should be a section on it in your Mobo manual.

The GeIL ram comes straight out of the box at 5-5-5-18 and at 1.8v i think.
So u need to tighten it up to 4-4-4-12 2.1v and it will run fine, then starting tightning etc.
