Right so...

Firstly my PC doesnt turn on when you press the button on the case, i have checked for a loose connection and there isnt one. I have to power it down on the mains and rely on a little luck

My drivers make my screen go black when i go into windows (but after i reinstall them its ok for a few days or so)

Sometimes my second hard drive dissapears (on bios as well)

erm... think thats about it. Wait no! Sometimes my PC resets itself for no reason

And sometimes when i start my PC my gfx card makes everything jumble around and i have to reshuffle it until it works

Specs:
DFI LanPartyUT nF4 SLI-D
Winfast PX7800GT
Mushkin 2gb ram
Maxtor Raptor 74gb + Maxtor 250gb
Seagate 600W PSU
Opteron 144 (Not OC'ed due to things NO SWEARING!! Big Kev up)
Antec P180 Case (Just incase)

Appriciate your thoughts :)

Is everything at default? Have you set Windows up on the Raptor or Maxtor. Have you got all the plugs in the mobo? What temps you getting? Is cooler seated correctly? Is ram in correct slots. Is mobo not grounding at all

Everything is plugged in as far as i can tell.
when at 100% my CPU temp is about 38C holds around 28-30 normally.
Yeah got windows installed properly on my Raptor. Only had problems with the video drivers as i said.

Does it play up when that happens?
If you have a partial connection somewhere, it will give you all sorts of grief.

Okay some basic questions here. I am not suggesting in any way you're a plonker or anything but you never know - everyone misses things from time to time ;)

Have you got all 4 power connectors plugged in correctly in the motherboard? http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.php?p=163734&postcount=3

Does your RAM have any known issues with DFI motherboards? http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24719 Scroll down and you should see a list of RAM that is compatible with NF4 boards. You can also do a search and see if your RAM is known to cause issues if it isnt in that list.

Have you used either a Legacy power connector [molex] or a SATA power connector in your HDDs - either will work fine but you can only use one at a time!

Is your RAM in the correct slots? http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showpost.php?p=418135&postcount=2 A brief explanation of where you should be putting it!

Is your PSU okay? When in Windows use ITE Smart Guardian and have a look at your voltages.. they all should be within +/-5% of their rating. ie, 12V rail between 11.4 and 12.6V [(voltage * 0.05) gives you the 5%]. I believe ITE SG highlights the actual voltage in red if it goes outside the margin.

I'll let you in a little secret. My friend set it up for me! But i assume he's quite capable. He's a doing a degree in Computing! Anyway i had a look and my ram is - Mushkin XP4000 2x1GB Black Series (which is on the recommened list)

Erm, its a bit confusing in there really. I will ask him to take a look and check that everything is connected properly. As you might have guessed by now, I'm not exactly a whizz.

Checked ITE as well and they are all well within only fluctuating to 0.1 out maximum. and the more delicate voltages are well within that.

I think we used Sata connectors for the HD

Thank you all so much, this has been bugging me and your being amazingly helpful, I thought i had no where else to turn! :(

as for your maxtor hard drive, what model is it Diamond max 10?? there was an issue between them and Nforce 4 drivers a while back i dont think it was ever resolved cos maxtor wouldnt acknowledge it and dont freely give out the driver fix for it, that may explain your HDD issues, as for ya vid card have your connected the power to it? and is your bios a good one DFI have loads of different bios's can take a while to find a nice one

Hmm right we pretty much completely rebuilt the PC on sunday, and its still being quirky. All the same problems. Reckon i should RMA the mobo?

Running a DiamondMax 10 here on an NF4 Ultra-D - ZERO problems.
