My Enermax Galaxy 850W EGA850EWL PSU is ridiculously loud.

Bought it 2 years ago, was said to be one of the most efficient and quietest PSUs on the market but in last few months the PSU fan has become incredibly loud and it's always spinning at 2988 RPM if not more.

My specs are as follows:
ASUS P5N32-E SLI PLUS
E6600 @ 3.0GHz (same problem even on 2.4GHz)
Noctua NH-U12 CPU Cooler
2GB (2x1GB) GeIL DDR-800 RAM @ 333MHz - 4-4-4-12 2T
nVidia 8800 GTS 320MB

Any idea why it's so loud? Cleaned it out with an air compressor too so there's little to no dust. CPU temp is about 35 idle. But whenever I load a game now, even one as low maintenance as Guild Wars the PSU goes even louder and stays that way even after shutting down the game. GPU temp is 56 degrees celcius and mobo is 40.

Case temperature is 19. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In my opinion, Enermax are rubbish. All their products.

If I told you I was an 8 foot tall transvestite who could fly, would you believe me? ;)

Nope, hence the "in my opinion" ;)

What exactly is the noise? is it a fan noise, or a high pitched squealing?

Where did you get the PSU from? Can you not return it under warranty or has that run out?

Ah got it from ****** (dunno if that's againt the rules) they don't stock the PSU anymore so I dunno if it's got the 3 year vendor warranty like they have with the Revolution atm. I think I'll dig up my box for the PSU and see if there's a reciept or warranty car dor whatever in there. Usually it's 3 years or more and I'm well within that.

That starred out word, is it the indian food variety, or an ex-Arsenal footballer who's name is Lee?

I'd be very tempted to send it back and get a different one :)

currys or dixons ;)

No idea what wor dyou meant, but this is niether the time nor the place to discuss starred out words!

Any luck on finding the box or the receipt?
You might just be able to contact Enermax, give them the serial number, and they can look up how old the item is then. I know there is a difference between the time it was manufactured, and the time it was sold, but still, it is worth a shot.

I found my e-receipt. Box had the manual and all and it is indeed still under a 3 year warranty but apart from the e-reciept I've no idea how I'm meant to prove it considering I don't have the main box that had the serial on it (I have the 2 boxes that were inside the cover box which had accessories and the PSU itself. Contacted e-Buyer and let's see what they say. Really should have thought of the warranty thing before >_<

ah ha!
Didn't think of that shop from your description :)

The e-recipt should be fine, just print it out in case your email sever is stolen by terrorists wanting to turn it into a bomb and you lose the email. ;)
