My engine came off its mount

So following my thread where I was chuffed with getting the head gasket on my mark 2 Clio fixed, I'm driving home and I hear a loud bang when pulling away at the lights. I thought I'd been hit, but no such luck. The main bolt that ties the engine mount (if that's the correct term) to the body has snapped and the engine has slipped about 2 inches off the mount. No idea on the damage yet, the wheels turn, it goes into gear etc, but obviously it won't go anywhere.

Now here's the possibly flame-worthy part, it's probably my fault. When we were doing the head gasket, we noticed that the old bolt was rusting away, so we replaced it from a spare from a scrap yard. Looking back on it, how was I going to know by looking at it the condition of that bolt? I should have not been a cheapskate and got it from a parts shop. Well, you live and learn.

No idea on the costs to repair, but given its age and mileage (10 years, 94k), it may be heading for the scrap heap :(

Just try getting a new high tensile bolt and getting it back in place, gotta be worth a punt.
I drove my old westfield for 3 months before I noticed the engine mount had sheared and dropped the block by an inch and a half on the drivers side.
Scary thing is it muct have been like that for a goodly while, as the previous owner had new body work fitted six month previously and the bonnet was cut to suit the carb filter poking through the side lol

Isn't there three engine mounts on a clio or is that only meganes/19s?

It's a French can, I've dealt with lots of them (not clios to be fair). But you normally have a gearbox mount on the passengerside, a high engine mount on the driver's side, and a low engine mount on the bottom of the engine, at the back, nearish the middle. But if one goes, the others won't hold the engine in place well, as they are normally cantered slightly on the mounts compared to the way the engine is weighted.

If its the gearbox mount that has gone as well and you get a new bolt, I have a spare brand new mount you could have for beer tokens...

Yup this is about right, the high mount on the driver's side has gone.

Cheers I may take you up on that once I have a look, but right now I'm too knackered to look at it. Back to the equally knackered Xsara for now.

No more French cars for me.
