So following my thread where I was chuffed with getting the head gasket on my mark 2 Clio fixed, I'm driving home and I hear a loud bang when pulling away at the lights. I thought I'd been hit, but no such luck. The main bolt that ties the engine mount (if that's the correct term) to the body has snapped and the engine has slipped about 2 inches off the mount. No idea on the damage yet, the wheels turn, it goes into gear etc, but obviously it won't go anywhere.
Now here's the possibly flame-worthy part, it's probably my fault. When we were doing the head gasket, we noticed that the old bolt was rusting away, so we replaced it from a spare from a scrap yard. Looking back on it, how was I going to know by looking at it the condition of that bolt? I should have not been a cheapskate and got it from a parts shop. Well, you live and learn.
No idea on the costs to repair, but given its age and mileage (10 years, 94k), it may be heading for the scrap heap
