Just be careful with the control aspect that the controller doesn't have a hand free to accidentally stray under the punch. In this case either have a protective screen and/or two pushbuttons which must be held.

I'm assuming they'll be looking at the health and safety aspect of this thing as well.

Dude, it only has to get through someting the width 8 sheets of paper. The only health and safety notice needed, is "Don't drop it on your foot"

Punched all the way through the sun newspaper (without the sun sport in the middle)

Everything you see was either made on a lathe a milling machine or by hand.

The solenoid was from a window wiper system off of a rover

Couldn't find any springs that were good enough so they were made out of piano strings and hardened and tempered them. The punch made out of silver steel was also hardened and tempered. Made a saddle on the end to punch effectively.

I know I asked for advice last october but it only took 2 weeks to make and finished friday. Just lazy
