I've just started wearing glasses 2 months ago, I'm 45. I don't like em :D

My vision isn't that bad right now, longsighted in one eye and short in the other but not so bad I cant see without glasses, although i do notice it at the computer.

I want to get laser eye surgery but as I understand it I have to have a stable prescription for a year ?

Is it a one shot deal then? You can't have a few decades of perfect vision then be re-lasered for a few decades more of perfect vision?

They can laser in a long and a short eye kinda like in built verifocals but laser can't fix age related degeneration as its not the lens its the muscle iirc

So basically laser eye surgery can fix vision problems that have existed since childhood but not deteriorated vision?

Your prescription needs to be stable.

A childhood defect it can't fix is lazy eye caused by untreated childhood astigmatism as its in effect a brain defect (the brain "switches off" the eye affected by adtigmatism"). I had laser surgery 6 years ago but only on the non-lazy eye.

Well it can but it's always gping to get worse again

They can reshape the lens but as the muscles that control it fail there's not much that can be done to fix that.

Growing old everything just gets worse

Hi,
I'm searching on websites or forums for laser eye surgery to understand whether it's suitable for me or not.
I'm recently saw an eye doctor who told me to wear eyeglasses and after around 1 year I got tired of carrying around my eyeglasses everywhere and it really bothers me to wear it in warm summer days.
I saw this image on google about LASIK eye surgery and I wanted to know whether its results are permanent or not?

Can someone get a LASIK eye surgery and his/her eyes become weak again?
I also heard getting a LASIK eye surgery decreases the existing water on the eyes and makes it dry and it cause the person to feel tired and also in some cases a headache.

is getting a laser eye surgery worth it?

It will only correct your eyes until the point where they naturally change again, which can be at any point but more likely in your 50s or so. Some people's eyes won't change when older so in that respect it would be a permanent change.

There is a big thread here - https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/laser-eye-treatment-whos-done-it.18271406. I would suggest talking to a few places that do it first of all and find out your options.

Thank you for your guidance, Yes I should see another eye specialist to talk about my situation and choose the best option.

The LASIK surgery is permanent in most adults.

What isn't permanent is presbyopia, which is what the above posters are talking about. This is the natural degradation of your short distance vision that requires you to wear reading glasses. Happens to everyone - no exceptions.

I consider reading glasses > bifocals. So in that case, laser eye surgery would absolutely be worth it.

Hi,

I'd chose ReLex over LASIK but when I last considered it, I was told a story from a friend who had asked the same question when in a room full of doctors the answer was, "Look around you Mr Doe, what do you see?"

Room full of doctors in a high street opticians, was it? A lot of them wear glasses even if they don't need to, for obvious reasons.

Went for my appointment the other day.
Apparently my eyes are too bad for any surgery (I'm +5 in my left and +6.25 in my right)
Various places online say they can correct -10 to +10, but they say they are only comfortable correcting up to a +4. Sigh.
Going for a contacts appointment tomorrow, last time I tried was a couple of years ago, couldn't get them out and was flinching like mad to a point where they gave up. I can actually touch the white part of my eye now without blinking or flinching now so maybe it will work better.
