Hello

I’ve been having such an emotional reaction to the PS5 and want to share my feelings on this to see if anyone feels the same or similar.

So my story behind this:

I’m nearly 35 now and I can’t remember what age I was when I see all my friends boasting about PS1 when I was at home playing my Sage Megadrive wishing I had one. My sister convinced me to moan to my mum to get me one lol and eventually she did! My emotion atm stems from the play station initial logo and sound once you have the disc in and that wonderful sound and yellow symbol comes up. From this moment I just bonded with the PS1 and all its games even down to the dull boring Alien game I played on it to all the Demos from Magazines where I didn’t have money to get the full game. Such a good time and memory I have with this machine.

Moving on... the PS2 ! It was all about the next gen games at this time and new looks! A wonderful machine ! Didn’t get the feeling as much as I did with PS1 but still an amazing machine!

Another step forward... the Xbox ! This changed it for me ... graphics looked better it felt more stronger and the wonderful Halo series just made it my new home! But still no feeling as I had with the ps1.

Next I purchased the Xbox 360 and this continued onward and my love for COD grew.

I purchased a ps3 slim but at this time I unfortunately was too busy playing PC and loving my AMD HD6970! Rarely played !

The XBOX ONE ! Booom this really pushed things another level for me and really enjoyed hell a lot of amazing games and online play with friends really took its level further.

Come 2020 and I see the announcement of Xbox Series X! I was gobsmacked at the specs of this thing ! Adamant I will get this console . However, I then see the PS5 and I don’t know why but that feeling I use to get from the PS1 come rushing back and I knew at that time immediately I need my baby back. I going back to where it all started. I’m taking it with my all and I’m getting that PS5! I’m laying down the Xbox controller and reaching out for that old feeling! New, fresh system. Then I read Legacy Of Kain is set to return! That really done it for me.

So there you have it !

A short version of my road to PS5!

I have to agree that the logo and the sound definitely gets me excited. I never had a PS1 myself but do have many fond memories of playing at friend's houses. Crash Bash, Crash Team Racing, Worms to name a few.

I did have several PS2s which felt like a much more grown up console. San Andreas and Ratchet and Clank franchise probably my highlights.

I got a PS3 late in its lifecycle mainly to play the new ratchet and clank games which were decent. The console didn't stand out to me as much as the others, though.

I'm currently on a PS4 which I think is a fantastic console. Can be back in games within ~10 seconds with rest mode which I've realized is hugely important to me. Awesome games library and also great multimedia capabilities.

Bring on PS5!

I didn't really get the love for PlayStation until I bought a PS3 and played such fantastic titles as Killzone 3, Infamous 1+2, Uncharted. But my heart was with Xbox 360 as it did everything better - network, achievements, friends, downloads and Gears! Plus all the multiplats ran better. Then it all went boobs up with the Xbox One which I didn't get until they dropped Kinect and then I barely played it as the PS4 did everything better.

Sold the Xbone, bought a PC and only now 2-3 years after purchase am I in love with PC gaming. It still has a lot of foibles that get on my nerves but the fact it has such a big library of games (and they can be had for peanuts) and can play 99.9% of games at 60fps is a massive feather in its cap. I'll still be getting the PS5 and that will probably be my main machine as it's more powerful than my PC. I won't bother upgrading my PC to compete with PS5, I'll just wait a few more years and buy a completely new one in 2023 and double dip on the games I like at reduced prices.

I've been in the Sony camp since playing Die hard trilogy and Resident evil on the PS1, never looked back.

In that time I have had, 3 or 4 gaming PC's an xbox 360, Wii, Wii U, xbox one, Switch, Xbox one x.

Playstation has and will remain my go to platform as I'm invested and love the single player experiences.

I will continue to dabble in other platforms though, likely will look to build a gaming PC in the next couple of years along with a PS5.

I agree with that ps1 start up sound! Even had it as a message tone on my phone for a while lol.

I think currently you can't go too far wrong which ever you choose, all have their pros and cons.

Ive always been Sony (and Nintendo), as everyone has said that logo and sound on PS1! Once i started work i got every games console as well as PC so yeah ive owned all the Xbox's but for me if it ever came to a choice PS would always win. Super hyped for PS5 and hoping theres a killer release title

Back in the day I bought a Saturn instead of a PlayStation. I didn't regret it at the time as the Saturn had some excellent games, many of which I still remember fondly (and some I still play) to this day but these days I of course know the PS had many more excellent titles I missed out on at the time. Since then I think I've had (and still have) every major console and a decent GPU in my PC so I've not missed out on anything. Or at least I wouldn't if I actually had the time to play it all, that's the biggest issue I've got these days.

I'm inevitably going to get both a Series X and a PS5 but despite how great the X sounds and Sony's lack of noise about the PS5, I can't help but feel PS5 is going to have a more exciting games line up. Bring them both on :) I'm actually quite excited for this generation which is good as despite some great titles, the PS4/Pro and Xbox One/X generation has always felt a bit meh to me.

I had that "feeling" with the PS1 as well. I also had it with the Dreamcast and N64. I don't have anywhere near as fond a memory of any of the others although they were all excellent. I'm old now (same age as you op) so I doubt I'll have it again, which is a shame.

I'm PS4 console wise at the moment and I still really have no idea if I'm going for Xbox of PS5 with this coming generation. The PS exclusives are probably just about leaning me towards PS5 at the mo.

I was actually really reluctant to go for a ps1 back in the day, I had an Amiga 500 which held that special place (still have found memories of it) but it broke and I borrowed a friends ps1 for the weekend with Resident Evil and that was that! I'd of course never played anything like it.

I had a Saturn originally, but after seeing my mate's PS1, I just knew I had to have one! I remember comparing Daytona USA and Destruction Derby 2, Virtua Figher 2 and Tekken 2 etc. Those were the days!

Similar journey for me, but late comer to all the recent consoles as I don't really game enough to justify the cost of getting them on launch.

Between me and by 2 brothers managed to get a PS1 for Xmas as a joint present, played Toca Touring Cars 2, Gran Turismo 1 & 2 and the first 2 medal of honours to death. Lots of split screen multiplayer!

My older brother then got a PS2 and i slowly commandeered it off him. Again, mainly driving games but also Medal of Honour again, and of course GTA 3 and Vice City. Was a massive step on from the PS1.

Not sure why, but I then switched to Xbox, i had a Xbox 1 which was "altered" and had XBMC running on it so was a media centre for me as well as a console. Then moved onto the Xbox 360 and now have a Xbox One which I dip in and out of. Bought a few games over lock down to have a dabble at (F1 2019, GRID). Really like the prospect of Project Cars 2 (car and track lineup) but just find it too difficult to get into as a casual gamer on a Pad. I know its not the intention of the game or its fanbase, but Forza level sim but being able to drive tracks like Oulton, Cadwell, etc would really lift the game to me!

I bought an N64 prior to getting my PS1, and while I don't regret having owned an N64 (OOT, Mario Kart, Lylat Wars etc) I find myself much more nostalgic about the PS1. The logo and the startup sound were amazing, and of course it was the console of choice for JRPG fans, which I very much was and still am.

My next console if I buy one at all will be the PS5, ultimately I'd rather buy all my games on PC but Playstation tends to get exclusives I want to play. I skipped the Xbox One entirely, never saw the point as the games I was interested in playing were available on the PC anyway. It'll take something like Persona 6 and/or an exclusive release of the second part of the FF7 Remake to make me bite the bullet though, although I expect the only genuine exclusive of the two will be Persona.
