My car so far, slowly getting ready for the track.

Got this car last July and been messing about with it since.

Still to do are Newmans rally spec cams to fit higher flow fuel pump, also want a few gauges, oil pressure and temp, and water temp.
Its got 4 point harnesses fitted, Escort RS Turbo Recaros in the front, stripped out interior, B&M quickshift and modified gear linkage.

Its currently putting out 138bhp at the wheels, im hoping with the new camshafts and a new exhaust it will be doing 150 at the wheels.

Only suspension mods so far are full poly bushes throughout.

Underneath is fully wax oiled so thats good as new. Few spots inside though but thats been dealt with.

Looks great.

Is it expensive to get those upgrades in?

Engine costs about £200, carbs, manifold and electronic ignition as a kit was £600, then all you need is some hoses, waterpump from a 1995 escort, few different hoses. Probably cost about £1000 all in.

To go in after the cams and exhaust will be a stage 2 CTS gearbox with Quaiff LSD, Hispec 4 pot brakes, bias brake box, and some compomotive 15" alloys. All takes time, especially as iv just spent up this month on new pc stuff.

So far its £260 a year to insure.

Beats nearly everything iv come up against so far.

Cheers the only reason i drive is for fun, the escort never ran for more than a week without breaking.

The rx8 was boring, just to clinical, fast round the track but no fun really.

Now the xr2 is spot on, brilliant fun, stealthy track weapon, cheap to run, ultra reliable. Everyone underestimates it.

Plus im a classic ford fan, i enjoy the shows.

You can just see my Escort behind. Guy had bought the Escort at this time and was waiting for money from his bank so i got my next car. :)

Car is going to JP Exhausts in Macclesfield on March 1st to get a new exhaust better suited to a 2 litre engine, then its going to AB Garage in Cheshire end of March for a pair of Newman PH3 cams fitted and rolling roaded again. Should see 155bhp at the wheels.

Nothing wrong with a CVH, good strong engines, just cheaper to get high power from a Zetec E.
I am tempted to eventually swap to the Omex Throttle body kit, you get most of the money back selling the bike carb kit. But i love the way bike carbs drive, so much better than the webbers i have had before.

New exhaust fitted today by the famous JP Exhausts.

Cams are going in on the 23rd April its the earliest he could fit me in, busy time of year.

Newman PH3 cams, they wont work on a standard engine though, we had a group buy so get them for next to nothing.

After the cams i fancy either a Tran-X LSD or a Quaife im leaning more to the Tran-x.

Well, sad to say i have sold this car now, and can you believe i bought another RX8.

The XR2 blew piston 4 at Santa Pod, a mate has bought it off me and is just dropping another block in, its going to be his track car.

Im thinking RX8 and save for a supercharger.
