So I've experienced my first accident and thought I'd post up some pics of my car. Happened on thursday morning around 2:10 - 2:15 while I was on my way back from my mates. Car is wrecked but I walked away without a single scratch on me, just been very very sore all over with bad neck and back and bruising all over.

Incredibly lucky as the roads were empty or this could have been a lot worse.
Wasn't speeding, driving sensibly, just driving home when the front end lost traction on Mancunian way dual carriage way.

Can post up details if people want to know. Gutted aswell as I only just got this car 2 weeks ago.

Its only a car least your ok. Im many years of driving I have never lost traction from the front wheels unless I was hooning or black ice. Any idea what caused it diesel spill etc.

I honestly don't know how the car lost traction, as I was driving under speed limit and after it happened, I was in shock anyway so didn't ask a lot of questions. The police did say that since the road has been resurfaced, it is incredibly slippery when it rains and has caused accidents before.

I do trade aswell so have driven vast amount of cars, even RWD. How ironic that it happens in a CTR.

Blimey, that's knackered. Would be interested to know exactly what happens as it looks like you span out in style.

Car lost traction while following the curve in the road to the left and went straight in the centre barrier, the driver side front hit the barrier first where the car dragged along for a few meters and then span out when the rear passenger side hit the centre barrier, I believe a lot more happened in the next few moments but I dont remember as I hit my head quite hard against the steering, when I next opened my eyes is when the car hit the metal wall on the left and the centre console/stereo came out flying straight into my face.

According to the police officer/report, the car travelled quite a lot of distance during this incident as the roads were very wet and slippery. What really gets to me is that this happened at 50mph, I wonder what would it have been like if I was speeding or hooning it.

Honestly, it was scary, I've been driving for over 5 years now never had an accident before and never expected this to happen. The airbags did not deploy. Obviously the damage can be seen in the pics but the rear passenger side the suspension is all bent, engine subframe is bent and the driver side wishbone is snapped, front slam panel/crash bar bent, radiator all out of shape, etc

The curve where it all went wrong:

This is where the car stopped:

Should give an idea on distance the car travelled.

Right,

Have read all the replies but there's too many to quote so I'll just answer a few things that stand out.

I was wide awake and not tired at all so didnt nod off, the mot was done on the car last week and there wasn't a single advisory on the car and the geo/tracking was perfect aswell as I had that done. The car was completely standard bar the black alloys and m5 ring sticker on the back, the rear two tyres were mismatched, one was a pirelli and the other was maxxis but both had over 5mm thread. The front tyres were matched, Bridgestone Potenza's RE040 with over 4mm thread on each.

For anyone saying I'm an unexperienced driver or was hooning around, that is incorrect, I have been driving for over 5 years, have been trading for 3 years and have driven and experienced a vast majority of cars so I would like to think I'm quite capable. I've had two type r's before this aswell.

For anyone jumping to conclusion and doubting me, spoke to the police today properly and have been informed that there was oil on the road where my car lost control. Due to rain it wasn't noticeable at that time. :/

Oil could do it. I have spun 360 on a bright sunday morning, I had taken my coat off because I was hot. Ice on the road at 10am still:confused: - trees casting a shadow across the road where a stream runs onto it following a very deep frost the previous night. Unbelievable but it happened, thankfully a very thick hedge caught me perfectly so almost no damage and it was NSL with fair bit of traffic coming the other way
In my case the car behind or in front didnt spin, maybe I was closer to the kerb and I was certainly closer to the limit. It never happened before or since on that road and I drove it everyday for more then a year

Very lucky but I wasn't as lucky as you :(

Worth noting you can claim from the MIB if the oil is the proven cause of accident.

I may go down this route, Thanks :)

Saw ring sticker, and became very skeptical! :p

Good job you don't have any major injuries, lucky as you say.

2 weeks of ownership and gone, what will you replace it with?

The ring sticker was on the car when I bought it, I had two type r's before this aswell. Not sure what to replace it with yet as I do have a few cars in stock that I can drive.

My mates offered me his old 1993 EG Civic with a B18C4 conversion with a S4C ek9 Type R gearbox with LSD. Quite tempted as I love old school honda's. The car and engine bay is immaculate.

The amount of damage here suggests speeds quite in excess of 50 I think, I can tell by the pictures..

Also, airbags only go off if you are wearing your seatbelt.....;) :p

I was wearing my seatbelt though, if I wasn't, I don't think I'd be sat here without a scratch on me ;)

Hi there

Sorry for your loss, I know people have gone on about tyres but they are pretty spot on.

RE040 are known to perform very poor in wet conditions, these were on your front and could be the reason for abrupt traction loss, but on the other hand RE040 are very stiff and generally pretty good on feedback, so if you'd being going slightly too fast they should have communicated as such, therefor your speed was simply to high for the road conditions even if you were within speed limit.

Miss-matched and again poor performing wet tyres on the back.

Your car had way sub-par wet traction at all 4 corners, I am not saying that if you'd have had F1 ASY2's all round this would not have happened but those tyres have being proven to offer vastly amounts more grip in wet conditions under lateral loads by as much as 10mph, that could be what was needed to keep you firmly attached to the black stuff. Off course it could also just be simply the case irrelevant of tyre the road was simply to slippery and the car going to quick.

Wet roads this time of year can be very greasy and as such dangerous, at least your OK and well remember next time it is wet just drive slower and don't risk anything.

Car can be fixed/replaced, so you'll be back on the road in no time. :)

Hey Gibbo,

I do agree with you but I've had no problems with traction at all. The accident was caused by oil on the road but I was well aware of the rear tyres and they were due to be changed next but. I've only had the car 2 weeks and had the mot done last week where it passed without a single advisory.

I'd like to save my no claims and not mess up my insurance record so have decided not to go through insurance, traders policy is hard to get in manchester anyways.

I'll be breaking the car starting tomorrow, if anyone on here wants anything. Let me know :)

I dunno, those pictures look like a pretty big traction problem :p

Fell for that one, aha! :D

Snigger :)

OP : Glad you got out un harmed, remember my 1st accident on the M602 - M60 slip, wasn't pretty and that one was my fault.

Brave decision on breaking the car, but suppose you have the figures worked out.

I got the car at trade price, breaking will take a bit of time but I'm already getting a lot of interest over at Type R forums so I should be able to recover all of my money. The running gear, engine, gearbox etc is worth good money and all the premier edition extra's such as the recaro's, momo steering, red carpet etc is worth quite a lot aswell so yeah I did work on my figures before :D

This road is 50 yards from my apartment, i drive it every day, and for a "performance" car in decent condition even in the wet the speed limit is far more than achievable without this happening....definitely something not right (tyres for a start).

EDIT infact from that street view, just pivoting around i can see my apartment, surprised i didn't hear this :p

my crash was due to driver error, why does no one admit these things.

If you read my replies earlier, the accident is caused by oil on the road, If it was my fault, I would have admit to it. :)

Love all the RTA investigation pro's in here :D
