Making my own loaf of bread, from scratch, is on my bucket list (I'm rubbish at cooking) - perfect Sunday activity!
So I've followed the most basic of recipes -
500g flour (I've used white regular for my first)
1tsp of yeast
1tsp of sugar
1tsp of salt
1tbsp of vegetable oil
1/2 pint of water
So added all the bits together, kneaded a LOT, and now they're both rising.
I've made two - because the dough felt a little bit too wet on no.1, so no.2 has slightly less liquid added.
Today is purely trial & error day, so not the end of the world if they both fail.
They're on top of my hobs at the moment, with the oven pre-heating = nice warm place for an hour.
Some people say, after they've raised an hour - take them out, "knock them down/punch" them on a floured surface, then re-raise them for 30 mins before baking them - do you do that?
Would be interested to hear any bread tips!
