Hello everyone,
I have recently decided that I would like to build my very first computer. I have been browsing these forums for quite a while and feel that I have a good understanding of the hardware needed to make a good computer.

My main uses will be gaming and general computery things like browsing the internet and listening to music.

I have a budget of about £600, within this budget I need to buy everything for the computer, apart from a monitor as I currently have a 19 inch, but will upgrade to a 24" in the future.

I would like it to be AMD based, as they seem to stick with Chips longer than Intel do, in case I want to upgrade in the future, they are also cheaper and only fractionally lesser in performance.

4GB of DDR3 would also be nice.

And a DX11 graphics card would be great, I was interested in the ATI radeon 5770.

One last thing, I would like the processor to be a quad core, for future proofing.

Please may you spec me a system? :)

Thank you all in advance.

i find computers work better with a harddrive

I've tried to make sure it will be decent, and have what you have stated in there :)
& I also take it that you most probably will need an OS :)
&& You get Direct X 11 :)

Thanks for all the replies (:

I will be needing an OS, Windows 7 would be best,
Would opting for an Athlon 2 rather than a Phenom 2 quad core affect the overall performance of the system much?

Thank you Stulid, there doesn't seem to be much of a drop in performance, so that's good. (:

Thank you for all your input, how does this look?

HIS ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £126.99

Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H AMD 890GX (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard £104.99

Motherboard? :p

Also, if you went for the motherboard I specced, you could get one of these. These can even cool an i7 efficiently & you will still have the same total price as the list you mentioned :)
