My first build finished but...

I'm not sure what option to select.

I've inserted the drivers disk that came with the mobo and it's asking to Select source:
1. Generate the RAID/AHCI driver diskette for Intel Z68 Chipset
2. Generate the AHCI driver diskette for Marvell SATA 3.0
3. Exit

Does it even matter? I'm guessing they both need generating?

Don't, take it out and get them from the site.

But you'd want the top one

Lets start from the beginning.

You have built the PC and havent put anything on the HDD yet?

You have it working and can access the BIOS?

I doubt they want either option 1 or 2.

Those options sound like they create a driver disk for use during Windows Installation.

PC built, nothing on HDD, it's working but not sure about access to BIOS.

Asus splash screen comes up for about a tenth of a second then I get: "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key"

Is there not a sticky or thread for ultimate noobs like me??

Install Windows first then worry about drivers. You may need to change the boot priority to boot from the optical drive.

Are you using a SSD? if so you need to enter the BIOS and set the SATA controller its connected to AHCI from IDE.

Yeah I've got an SSD but unsure how to get to BIOS just keeps say reboot and select proper boot device?

Spam del when you turn it on until the bios appears. It's difficult to get the timing right with one press.

I've changed the SATA mode to AHCI from IDE

Now change the first boot device to your optical drive, pop in the Windows disc and restart.

Is this a intel build? is the SSD on a intel controlled SATA port and not a crummy Marvell one?

What board is it?

It's an intel build on an Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 mobo. Not certain if it's Marvell or Intel, very new to all this stuff, sorry! How would I find out?

Its in the manual, it the top pair that should be avoided called "M_SATA"

Am I the only person who changes it to AHCI for normal HDD's as well? It does have it's advantages for them too.
