My first build in an NZXT Vulcan ##No longer a mess, Look at post 20 :D :D ##

EDIT WOaaah! I need to resize those pics, I'll be 2 mins

Hey, Thought I'd share my build of my First ever PC here, The original idea was to do it in an old PowerMac G4 case, it was going well until I tried to fit everything and well... It didn't look great so I ordered a propper MATX case, I got MATX because the board was already MATX, And the case was mistake No.1 After looking around though I decided I liked to look of the NZXT Vulcan so I ordered it and it came in a week-ish. I then fitted it together and to my suprise it booted! But after a but of reading I realised I bought a H67 Board with an i7 2600k CPU, so the K was useless, although I didn't have a graphics card at the time so it wasn't all badbut Mistake No.2 ;) I then also noticed the cooler wasn't up to scratch hitting 90c when encoding so I went and bought an ECO Alt water cooler which is MUCH better! Several otherthings too like fan splitters have been added so that I can use my Sentry 2 to control the 4 pin fans and 2 fans on 1 chnnel, A cathode and other things i've forgotten at the mo :D Anyway.. Time for pics, Sorry they're bad quality I may look for a propper camera soon rather than using my phone :D

Oh and I'd but pictures of boxes but there would only be some as the CPU was an OEM plus it all came at different times :)

So yeah, Here is the side with it open... mess much! I need a new PSU as that one was only bought because it would fit the Powermac without modification, I'll hopefully change that for something Modular and less boring that grey

Here is a close up of the mess

IMAG0010.jpg

A pretty failed shot of the graphics card (560Ti Twin Frozr II, It's actually an amazing card and I can OC to 1Ghz without changing voltages :D)

IMAG0014.jpg

A shot of the cathode and grey (Boring) PSU :)

IMAG0019.jpg

A picture of it turned on with lights (I can turn all the lights on/off I have a switch at the back :D

IMAG0024.jpg

It turned on again, But in the dark this time, Slightly blrry pic though

IMAG0025.jpg

Me tring to show an orange LED strip at the front of the case, but it's hard to capture (This came with the case)

IMAG0026.jpg

My Sentry 2 Fan controller

IMAG0027.jpg

And that's all the half decent ones i took :) Hope it's okay to have that many pics though? :D Oh yeah and specs

i7 2600k, MSI Twin frozr II 560Ti, 8GB 1333Mhz RAM, ECO Alt watercooler, Sentry 2 Fan controller, and that's pretty much what Is in my sig too, Also.. Any reccomendations on a PSU while Im at it, And definatley for my next build I will order all at once and make very little mistakes hopefully :) Thanks for reading ;)

Hi bud, congrats on your 1st build we all have to start some where, but like anything else you may as well start now and learn how to tidy your cables up, you can buy tie raps quite cheap online. It makes your build look 100% better, it does not matter if you can't hide them as long as your cables are tidy. :)

Nice build I love the case I always have but damn that's a huge cable mess are there any behind the motherboard tray?

I would suggest you mount the fan for the water cooling kit at the rear of the case, this is the preferred method and how they should be fitted.

Thanks :) Yeah It is just a but messy, I may try using Cable ties later, but also, Ideally I'd like it as tidy as this one :p So as soon as I can, I'ma try order a Modular PSU

Thanks :D I saw in one thread many people really hated the case, But I thought it looked awesome :D Also as above, yeah It needs a tidy, There are a few on the otherside but I forgot to photograph that :p

I have it as an intake on the front as the fan mount on the back is only 92mm where as the rad is 120, The only other places for it would be one of the 2 120's at the top, I could also then move the HDD cage back in, But I don't feel right about that, And seeing as heat rises pretty much all the heat in the case would therefore be going through it, Also.. It would be very tight, if I can get it in at all :)

Oh yeah and I forgot to mention, The 2 fans on the top are are going to be replaced then they are going to be moved down the chain and will both be put on the rad, As the one on it doesn't seem to move much air and is Soo Noisey!

As it stands, you have the intake essentially bringing HOT air into the system (seeing as it cools the radiator on the way in), which will be artificially raising the ambient case temperature, thus heating the GPU and the motherboard chipset.

I'd definately get it at the top or the back. I had a 120mm rad mounted in the back of a CoolerMaster ATCS 201-SXK, and it only had an 80mm rear fan. The way I went around it was to mount the radiator to a 120mm fan with the blades removed, and that was epoxied to an 80mm fan which was attached to the case. Plus the 120mm fan on the other side of the rad, it was easily enough to provide enough cooling (so 120mm in push and 80mm in pull).

Damn.. I didn't think of it that way :( I dont suppose it would be a good idea to add a 200mm fan intake on the side? Otherwise I'll have to move it to the top

Looks like a nasty generic PSU - I'd change that for something decent before it takes out the rest of your system.

I'd definitely agree with this, also to help solve your wire problem get a modular one. It will cost you a little bit more but will certainly help you clean up your system and get a nice looking interior.

Oh it is an Antec, So it's not a nasty brand... Just an ugly PSU, I take it Antec don't fall under the 'dodgy' category?

As above, I should soon be getting one :D

That PSU must be very low end, or just old to come with all those cables non-sleeved.

I'm sure the hardware is great but I just can't see past those cables. ;)

ouch, congrats on firstly building your machine but mother of god lol
inside the case should look as follows :

Cables ties and a few hours PS psu is non modular ;) be creative :p

Wow, That's a nice job there! I'd like to point out it's matx and very cramped though :p Although I know not a very valid excuse :p

WOW! I just pretty much rebuilt it and tried to tidy those cables and IMO it went pretty well ;) Apart from the fact that I have no braiding and they're all bright red and yellow, Plus one of the power leads for Mobo wan't long enough I think it's pretty nice, And all I'd planned to do was move a fan from the top and put it on the rad as the stock one was too loud, But I have to option to turn on the stock one using the fan controller if it ever gets too hot :p Although I have sacrafised the lights as having them ruined the tidieness as there is only one place they will fit :p Putting the back on was pretty tough... So many wires there! But it's on now, and I've had to use cello tape to tidy some wires... I'll have pics in like half an hour :)

Decided not to post the images because I forgot to resize them:rolleyes:

My Cello Taping

The right side of the case, and what I had to cram in :p

The case as it is now :D

Probably the messiest bit visible :p

The PSU wires heading to the bit behind instead of out front to make a mess :p

The bottom right, Pretty much a zoomed out picture of the above, And the PSU as you can see, I turned round which is nicer than the grey :)

And the whole case, With my new BB :p
