My first build :/ Is this card okay?

Hey this is my first build ever !
im new to these forums and just wondering if you think the Sparkle 9800GTX+ 1gb is a good card to use with my ASUS m3n78 MOBO and im using an AMD Athlon 64 6000+ 3GHZ

If not then please could you recommend a nice one (that supports Blu-Ray)

Whats your spending limit on a card??
For a little extra than the 1GB 9800GTX+, the GTX 260 is considerably faster.

Will this be able to handle programs such as Photoshop CS4 and Maya unlimited well too?

Capably. These programs don't use the GPU as much as you might think.

AH right, what usually makes them really slow then? the CPU? because thats the reason im building a new comp this one i think is just outdated using a 2.0GHZ :/

CPU, RAM and hard disk, in that order.

Ah thanks, well my cpu is 1ghz over my old one then already and now i have 2more gb of ram and this hard drive is just well lame

Yeah CPU will help more with Maya and that. A quad-core really helps for that kinda work.

The best CPU's by far for that type of software is Intels core i7's CPU's. The cheapest one (i7 920) is about £220. But then your'd have to get a different motherboard and more expensive DDR3 memory..

I wouldn't bother with the Athlon 64, it's old now. If the i7's are too much then i'd go for a Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Phenom II Tri-Core.
