Hi guys,

Im building my first PC, not bothered about overclocking it just want a fast Pc with good graphics that will last me a good few years and then some.

Here is some things i have saved in my checkout at Oc,

MY-058-GL GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL) £164.99

2 x CD-076-SA Samsung SH-W163 16x16 DVD±RW Serial ATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) (CD-076-SA) £47.98

CA-005-HP Hiper HPU-4K580-MK Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU - Black UV (CA-005-HP) £54.99

GX-014-EA EVGA GeForce 7950 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-014-EA) £189.99

KB-069-LG Logitech G5 Gaming-Grade Laser Mouse - Retail (KB-069-LG)£36.99

Subtotal £925.89
VAT £162.04
Total £1,087.93

Is this system gonna be compatible with the case and are all the parts gonna be compatible with the board.
If you can think of better replacements then please do say them although ive reached my max spend so please try not to list things of a higher price.

Also can you tell me if this is a good gfx card for my needs, will probs only go as high as 1024 x 768, thats all im used to now, may go a little higher. Do i need 512mb? cheers please suggest replacements.

Any help from anyone is very much appreciated.

Saved up £1100 and I wanna get my first build right first time. If theres anything else I may need that isnt listed above then please say.

Thanks in advance,

Lee.

That looks like a pretty good setup there mate. I'd drop the Hiper PSU though, they are not always that solid. I'd look for an Enermax Liberty, an FSP Sparkle or an OCZ power supply around the 600 watt mark. Are those 2 drives for RAID 0? If so, I wouldn't bother. I run 2 raptors in RAID 0 and notice no difference over a single raptor. If anything, access times are slower. Just get yourself a single raptor as your main drive instead. You seem to have forgotten to budget for a large hard drive

As for graphics cards, get yourself MSI's 7900 GTO which is on special offer at the moment. Its a 7900 GTX with clocked down memory & is too good a price to miss. :)

Lee,

If your not going to be overclocking, then I don't see the need for that ram. The E6600 runs at 266Mhz, and that ram is capable of running at 400Mhz. You might be better off going for this: GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 667MHz Value DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB5300DC) (MY-034-GL) £139.99 (£164.49 Including VAT at 17.5%). This ram runs at 333Mhz.

Someone correct me please if I am wrong.

Also, you may want to get a slightly cheaper motherboard; again for the same reason if your not overclocking.

Many thanks,

James Pearce

It would be a sin not to overclock that gear. Even if he is not though, it should be one super stable system. :)

My heads up my ****.

All I want is to build a Pc, something superfast and class for gaming.

why does there have to be so much choice.

If someone can help me choose a good system for my needs then please do.

I have £1,050 total not 1p more.

I want superb gaming quality.

Are those 2 drives for RAID 0? If so, I wouldn't bother. I run 2 raptors in RAID 0 and notice no difference over a single raptor.

I just want 1 drive to use as a backup thats all.

Couldnt find that gfx card mate.

If anyone can sort me out with a good list of kit to buy for my budget that I will actually use to its full extent please let me know
I doubt that I will overclock, I know absolutely nowt about ovverclocking so until I feel I do then it wont be happening.

Thanks lads,

P.S if you think I dont need to spend that much then cool let me know what to buy :)

Lee.

Hey LeeHamo,

Don't worry! Your spec looks fine!

Advice is right to go enermax, ocz instead of Hiper but everything else looks ok!

Jus get it - i'm sure you'll be well chuffed at its performance!

Thats a great setup, you also have the option at trying overclocking at a later date if you wish. I'm ordering more or less a very similar setup to you, although Ive got a more expensive CPU.

Tagan, OCZ, Enermax are well reknowned for quality Power Supply Units if you can afford one of those I would choose one of those, just an opinion.

Looks like a very good setup,I would however follow the advice given and change the PSU,my preference would be a Seasonic if you are buying from OC'UK but an even better choice would be a PCP&cooling unit, for some strange reason oc'uk have never stocked these though, which has always slightly confused me as they are an 'overclockers/power users' best friend.

The seagate 7200.10 hard drives are offering the best performance presently from the large capacity drives, the 320gb version looks to offer the best value.

As you are using an Nvida gpu,you obviously won't be requiring the crossfire option that your chosen board offers so why not save yourself some money and go for a 965 chipset board such as the DS3/4 or Asus P5B deluxe, these offer incredible overclockability and improved layout over the Abit, why pay extra for the 975X features if you won't be using them? :)

Why two small 80GB HDs? & DVD±Writers?
