Hello all, nice to finally 'talk' to you. I've been frequenting this forum for months now gathering (stealing) as much information as I can to build a gaming rig. I admit most will state that the rig I've built is over-powered for what I want (Bluray, SW:TOR) but ever since I was a semi-pro on UT back in the late 90s I've always wanted 'the best'. So forgive my over-enthusiasm.

TheGoon84 has been helping by his advice and insane enthusiasm for all things PC related. Hopefully he'll take some pics of the build this week. For now, the build is as follows:

  • CPU: Intel Sandybridge 2600k - £175.00
  • GPU: MSI Twin FroZr GTX 580 - £322.00
  • MEM: Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8 8GB - £70.99
  • M/B: Gigabyte Z68X-UD4-B3 - £121.69
  • H20: Corsair H70 - £63.50
  • SSD; 2 x Corsair Vertex 2E 120GB -RAID 0- £51.59
  • CASE: NZXT Phantom - £88.99
  • OPT: Samsung SH - B123L 12x - £45.00
  • OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit - £94.00
  • PSU: Corsair 850W Pro Series Gold - £134.98
  • SPK: Creative T12 Wireless - £46.50
  • H/P: Logitech G930 7.1 Wireless DD - £102.06
  • DISP: LG W2363D - £159.99

Total: £1675.70

It is expensive :D.

- That's a good price on a 2600K. Might as well...
- Same about the 580. This SLI'ed?
- Memory is expensive. If you do take a air cooler, take the low-profile RAM, or something else like the Kingstons HyperX.
- I would take a gen3 motherboard if I go Z68.
- I would go silent air cooling ,like the Silver Arrow / Notcua / DarkRock Pro.
- Two Corsair SSD in RAID? I wouldn't bother and get just one 120GB. Price is wrong, £250?
- Case is up to you, I personally prefer a LanCool / Raven RV02W-EB / 650D.
- Corsair AX-850 is good. The price is too good to be true :) If you want the best, Seasonic X-850.
- Dunno about speakers. I prefer headsets anyway, they make great surround headsets nowadays.
- That's the 120Hz LG display? I would take that. Or a IPS if you decide to save money on the dual SSD.

my $0.02.

EDIT : Oh yeah, careful where you buy. If it looks too good to be true, then it probably is.

Looks nice to me.

Now, SSD raid 0 is something I personally would not go for. I would also ditch Logitech G930 and Bluray for a better screen, but that is just me.

Actual machine sounds very good, congrats!

Argh so many questions. I also forgot we used IC Diamond 24 for the TIM. The 580 is not SLI, all prices are correct, I think it was £122 plus £128 for each SSD, the speakers are for a wireless solution for another monitor, not essentially for this build tbh (I should've left them out :) ), yes that's the 120hz LG display.

The SSD in raid 0 is something I've been worrying about. Please take into account that this build HAS been built but no operating system has been put in, so I could always use the SSD's as seperate drives. I'll go on your advice gents.

All the above prices include VAT and delivery. Cheers for the replies :)

All bought and built already, hey... :/ Then not much to say apart from Raid 0 SSDs is kinda overkill, never mind two SSDs. Looks like a good build otherwise. Raid 0 two Vertex 2E will give you SATA 6GB performance. Still, I don't think it's worth the effort, potential reliability issues, and RAID bothers.
