I have never built a computer before but have wanted to for a long time, now im back from uni and working almost full time ive decided to build one up over a few months. i decided first off after reading lots of reviews and watching videos that i wanted to build an amd phenom II system with the following spec(as my wages would let me buy eith a few or one up to £150 every two weeks)

I thought this would be the best set up and i have bought the basics for now like the case, psu, dvd, hdd, fan controller, 2 extra fans, 2 dust filters and the h50 water cooler.

after reading some more i realised i could have an intel core i5 set up for similar maybe like £100 more.

but because im so impatient for now i have bought to go with what said above....

OCZ 2GB DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 5-6-6-15

AMD Athlon X2 240 2.8GHz Socket AM3 2MB

XFX GEFORCE GT220 1GB DDR2 HDMI PCI-E

Gigabyte GA-M52L-S3P nForce 520LE

will this all work together and be able to run modern games, like MW2 etc?

cheers:)

Personally I would go for the scythe mugan 2 or titan fenrir over the H50. I also prefer OCZ or corsair PSU's over coolermaster.

Just make sure the 965 is the C3 stepping. The C2 was an overclocked 955.

If anything its more than enough for MW2.

ive already bought the h50 cooler, and i plan on replacing the psu when i get a second graphics card to a Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 750W.

when i get around to replacing the cheap parts i bought i was already trying to decide which to get 4890 or 5770, i just thought that i wont use eyefinity and theres not much use for dx11 atm for me, so i would use 4890 for a while then after a year or so upgrade to 5 series.

The HD5830 is coming out in the first week of January and is meant to replace the HD4890 so it is worth waiting to see how fast it is and how much it will cost after the initial price hikes.

I would change the hard drive to a Samsung F3 500GB as this is faster than the 250GB F1 and is cheaper per GB of storage.

The OP should also look at getting cheaper RAM as over £100 for 4GB of 1600MHZ DDR3 is OTT!!

It is also worth considering the Antec Signature 650W.

It has excellent reviews from jonnyguru and Hardware Secrets:

The unit is built by Delta Electronics and is one of the best 650W units out there.

A decent 650W unit can easily power a pair of HD5870 cards and a Phenom II X4.

ive been thinking of getting the 5770's for the lower power consumption aswell. and its too late for the hdd, i already bought the f1, but at the price the hdd's are going for i can quite easily upgrade in a few weeks.

is there a market place on this forum? ive bought some new stuff to do me for now,

OCZ 2GB DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 5-6-6-15

AMD Athlon X2 240 2.8GHz Socket AM3 2MB

XFX GEFORCE GT220 1GB DDR2 HDMI

Gigabyte GA-M52L-S3P nForce 520LE

i wont be needing this after ive finished my main build.

Oh yeah, and definitely upgrade that HDD too. You can get 1TB for like £60 something or if not go for a 500GB instead. I don't know about you but thats going to get filled up pretty quickly with a few films and games, etc.
