My first C2D Experience - Temp advise please

OK - I gave in and built my first C2D system yesterday - replacing an X2 4400+, SLI-DR rig.

I have DS3 (r3.3), E6300, Ninja B (120mm fan blowing to rear fan), 2 x 1GB Ballistix 6400, MSI 7900GTO, Antec P180 with the top and rear 120mm at low.

Played around a bit last night and left it running Orthos dual overnight at
420 x 7 at 1.375V, DDR 840 (4,4,4,12,2T) at 2.2V(+0.4).

No errors over 8 hours and TAT reports 63/65C. Now idling after half and hour and it is 51/52C.

I would like to go more but a bit concerned that I am not optimal with the cooling especially idle. I used my last blob of AS5 on the CPU so don't want to reseat it but maybe I need to? Thinking of playing with the fan speed settings on the case first - maybe needs an intake fan too? Any advice much appreciated.
 
Yes, I expected better too. I've added a case fan at the front and put the door back on. Still at 45 idle. As much as I don't want to, I'm going to have to take the Ninja off and reseat it with some new AS5. It's going to run hot until I do that though - I don't suppose it will mind that much.
 
I don't have another cooler - it's a cheap second hand oem cpu. I'm regretting rushing in and fitting the Ninja - did not look closely to see if it was flat - or the CPU for that matter. Just Googled the problem and it seems I am not alone. Many people moaning about the weak push pin fixing mechanism of the Ninja Rev B and general bad performance - perhaps it tilts when upright.

I'm going to try running the case on its side to see if the Ninja sits better with mavity helping. Ordered some more AS5 and will reseat it when I get it. I will consider lapping both CPU and Ninja when I have taken it apart again and had a proper look.

Beginning to regret buying it - as usual I've chucked the packaging so I doubt I can send it back.
 
I have a Freezer 7 and it's run pretty hot even with a lapped processor :( TBH unless your IHS is very concave, it shouldn't matter if it's not totally flat. You can still get good temps with the right application of thermal paste.
