Hey everyone, so I've been looking to upgrade for a while now i'm just having a hard time deciding on a build that I want so some advice is definitely needed.

My requirements are...Budget of £1000 maybe with a £100 extra if justified.
Main use for computer is everyday basic stuff (browsing internet ,transferring files from computer to external hard drives and gaming (latest games and old).

I am currently happy gaming at 1080p. I already own all peripherals and a fairly decent monitor but will be upgrading in the future. I already have a Corsair 700W GS700 in my current rig which I will be using in this new build unless you would advise otherwise so no PSU will be required.

I also require a MID tower case as a full one will not fit in the holding below my desk :)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks :)

Matx will be too small for me, ATX in a mid case would be perfect.

Also I already have watch Dogs on ps4 so that extra isn't required :)

I'd definitely require a cd/dvd drive also but nothing special.

I think I'm dead set on the cpu being an i5 4690k
Never been a serious overclocker but heard it's not that difficult anymore.

Also is there any disadvantage to having a 500gb ssd over a smaller one plus a mechanical drive? I won't really require any more than 500gb total storage :)

Many thanks :)

I will take a look at some ATX cases when I get time after work and see what ticks the boxes.

I see many people recommend gigabyte motherboards, is there a reason for this? I do like the look of some Asus and MSI ones but they tend not to be mentioned.

Also I was looking at the Samsung EVO 500gb ssd as a possibility

Okay so I finally got around to looking for cases, kind of picky but here is my criteria.

Dimensions no bigger than 520mm x 520 x 230 (H,D,W)
Holds ATX (Mid Size case)
Front Mesh able to hold 1 x 120mm fan minimum
Side window
Front I/O minimum of 2 usb 3.0 ports (any extra 2.0 ports are a bonus)
Doesn't look too flashy (I like simplistic designs)
Removable HDD bays
SSD bay x1

So after scouring the internet i've come up with these options.

NXT Phantom 410 Enthusiast
Corsair Obsidian 450D

When looking at the Corsair case I found out it doesn't come with a usb 3.0 to 2.0 adapter, does this mean that 2.0 devices won't work in these ports? As I have a headset mixer controller that is 2.0 that I plug into the front (I remove it often to plug into my PS4).

Many Thanks.

My Build so Far any input would be appreciated.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor
Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 780 3GB DirectCU II Video Card
Case: Corsair 450D ATX Mid Tower Case
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer

Need to decide on a motherboard and cpu cooler.

Also as a big lover of windows 7 is it worth upgrading to 8.1 or sticking to 7.
