Hi! I'll be ordering my first gaming PC soon but before that I thought I'd post here and ask for your expert opinions. I'm looking for a PC good enough to play current games on (at least) high settings and will last me a long while.

Original Post:

All I've been doing is fiddling with the System Configurator and I've ended up with a build that's at the verrry end of my budget. Well actually I kinda extended my budget a bit! :p Here it is anyway:

- Corsair Graphite 760T Windowed Full Tower Gaming Case - Black (CC-9011044-WW)
- Stage 2: Overclock of CPU - 12.5% Overclock (Proceesor speed x1.125)
- Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail
- Corsair Hydro H80i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
- Asus Maximus VII Hero Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
- Kingston HyperX 8GB (2x4GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black/Red (HX24C11BRK2/8-OC)
- GALAX GeForce GTX 980 "Reference Design" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (98NQH6DHXXXX)
- GALAX GeForce GTX 980 "Reference Design" 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (98NQH6DHXXXX)
- Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD
- OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM
- Corsair RM Series RM 850 '80+ Gold' 850W Power Supply (CP-9020056-UK)
- Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00614)
- BitFenix Alchemy Premium Modding LED Strip - Connect Orange 60cm
- Roccat Arvo Compact Gaming Keyboard
- Zowie FK Pro Gaming Mouse - 2014 Edition
- Asus VE247H 24" Widescreen LED Multimedia Monitor - Black
- OcUK Value AT/ATX "Kettle Plug" 2 Meter Mains Cable
Total: £2,187.78 (with VAT and shipping)

Is this any good and is it all compatible and stuff? Am I going about this all wrong? I wouldn't be surprised...

Updated

I made some adjustments taking into account the invaluable advice you've given:

Compatible yes, but why 2 GTX 980s?

You've only specced a 24in 1080p monitor. One 980 is overkill for that let alone 2.

Save the cash and go X99 or i7 Devil's Canyon if you have money burning a hole in your pocket. You could also drop down to a more sensible wattage on the PSU then too, something like a good quality 650W would be more than ample.

You've also not specced an SSD drive - why? SSD drives are much, much quicker than mechanical drives and cheap enough to be a no-brainer. Keep the 2tb drive and add in a 250gb (ish) SSD

I would go with something closer to this, much better monitor, i7, SDD, nice case, better cooler.

To Build or Not to Build!

Thanks for your reply Fallen god! I'll keep it in mind.

ExRayTed I initially wanted to build it myself exactly for that pride and knowledge! However, after using the System Configurator and looking at all of the components, it just made me doubt if I could really put it together... Also I haven't had a computer for many years now. I've just been using my iPad to Internet and post on forums like this! So the Sys Config made me eager to get it here quick and already set up.

But you know what? You changed my mind! I will attempt to build it myself and constantly ask for help from you and the community, thanks man!

Finally, how'd you post your basket like that?

Your sig is going to get nuked soon btw Gunblade :P

P.s if you are spending, make sure you get a really good monitor with enough gpu grunt to run it.

For the guys questioning the budget, is it that massive? I'm hoping that the bigger budget would kinda mean I won't need to upgrade anything any time soon. Does that make sense or am I being silly and missing something here..?

What does that mean!?! D:

As advised, I'm dropping the 2nd graphics card and putting that money towards a better monitor, cooler and the i7 Devil Canyon as suggested by Fallen god and ExRayTed.

I also need to change the hard drive to an SSD too. I'll update the original post (if that's possible here) with a new spec.

There reaches a point in gaming computers where diminishing returns starts to become a problem - where any extra spent really won't be noticeable.

You're right on the tipping point with that budget. However, change the monitor for a large, high resolution display and you could very easily spend 2.5k.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus PG278Q ROG Swift 27" G-Sync 144Hz Gaming Widescreen LED Slim Bezel Monitor - Black/Red £629.99
Total : £629.99 (includes shipping : ).

Whaa... Speaking of tipping points, this monitor would push me over the edge in terms of what I can currently spend!

What do you think of this one:

With 2k to spend I would go for an X99 build as it would last longer. Games will start using more cores sooner or later and the price of DDR4 will come down.

So is it all still compatible?

Well I was going to say if the current build in the OP is good enough to order now but this makes me question the whole thing! D:
