With thanks to SiriusB's SMP guide, allow me to present my first Linux SMP Benchmark...

Project: 2604
Core: GROMACS SMP
Frames: 100

Avg.Time / Frame 11mn 58s 2117.88 ppd

Is that in the right ballpark for an E6700?

Ah, good, I shall let it chug away for a couple of days and then do a bit of Orthos work on it.:)

It's at 3.2ghz at the moment, but it's on water and I just got some of that Geil DDR2 800 that was on offer, so I shall do a little tweaking in the next few days. It's been to 3.6Ghz before but was unstable due to the cheapo DDR2 667 I had.:)

I notice that VMWare doesn't use 100% of the CPU when it's running, does Native Linux use 100%?

Interesting, I'll see how it goes, the deadlines look OK, even if I switch off for 6 hours a day the WU is done in a day.

Do you run a new VM with another Linux in for the 2nd client?

I'm upto 2203.83 now after 14 frames. Did you use the default 499Mb for the RAM settings on the VM?

Hmmm, the 0.1Ghz sounds attractive.:)

I'll do my tweaking before setting up the second client.

As always, thanks for the help.:)

I have done a little Orthosing and at 3.4Ghz I am now getting:

10:33 a frame at 2402.27 Ppd.

A gnats whisker better, and more Orthosing to come.

As a side note I presume the reason I can't find the shared folder on the Ubuntu install is I rather stupidly called my PC and Ubuntu install the same?

A little update, under native Ubuntu:

-- SMP 1 --

Min. Time / Frame : 9mn 59s - 2538.63 ppd
Avg. Time / Frame : 9mn 59s - 2538.63 ppd

That's my Orthos stable limit at the moment without upping the VCore to silly levels, boots happily at 3.6Ghz but scared of upping Vcore. I'm running the units with -oneunit as I am experimenting to get the most out of my m/c.

My next experiment is to run Linux in VMWare, without the GUI and remove all the non-essential services.

I am getting used to Ubuntu, have been playing with it and quite like it, someone needs to rewrite directX for it so we can play decent games on it.
