i had a chance to go out with my new 100mm 2.8 macro lens today

these are my very first attempt at macro.

due to having quite a few i made a simple viewer page

http://www.paulross.me.uk/macro/

they are straight from the camera.

will play around with them with photoshop when i have more time

C&C welcome.

I really like the colours in the first one, not too keen on the rest but its good for a first attempt definitely.

my personal opinion of post processing is as little a possible it better, unless a major recovery is required on an image then just a little clean up colour high lighting and simple crop and border should suffice, this will do for most of your shots. Obviuosly if you have the correct focus and exposure out of the camera then less work to do on the pc!

what would you suggest to do with these for example, if anything.
i keep going around in circles, playing with colour, contast, saturation etc etc but cant settle on anything.

I think the focus is a little soft in a lot of them. It's the problem I (and I'm guessing most macro-noobs) have - because you're so close, the dof is so small it just makes it really difficult to focus. that coupled with the fact that the slightest movement can completely wreck everything shake-wise and dof-wise makes it very difficult to do! I've not actually managed to take a macro shot I'm happy with yet, and I've been trying for a good 6 months! :(
