While I wait for my E4300 etc to arrive I thought I would have my first attept at oc'ing with the current setup I have which is:-

Athlon64 3000 cpu (newcastle s754)
2 x 512mb Pc3200 DDr400 Corsair value ram
ECS 755-A2 mobo

I know this isn't exactly oc'ing gear but I thought i'd give it a go to try and get some practice in.

I lowered the H.T by 1 setting which took it from 800 to 600. I increased the cpu speed from 200 to 205 and rebooted.

it wouldn't go past the post screen lol!

Have I done something wrong or is this system just not up to being slightly oc'd?

I got my old 754 rig to 2.6 from 2.4, which isnt to special since it was just a flat FSB increase, not exactly hard, but couldnt get further due to inexperiance, anyway, for you getting stonewalled at just a 5Mhz increase even with the HT set to 4 is kinda odd to me, I can only think your RAM is causing it, try a lower frequency, and it seems crazy to me you would have to pump more volts into the CPU to get a 5Mhz increase :p but dont play with that untill someone who is better then me at O/C makes a reply.

i seems unlilkey that it's anything but the mother board. I got my 754 3200 clawhammer 17% faster (to 235 i think) but it took a lot of messing about. That was on a dfi250 GB

Try slowing the memory down to PC2700 speed (333) before you OC, or perhaps just backing the timings off a little might help.
