Hardware:
Q6600 2.4GHz (not G0-stepping)
Crucial Ballistix RAM (PC-5300 667Mhz)
Asus P5KC

I have overclocked to this;

Multiplier (CPU) x8 (down from x9)
Bus 333 MHz (up from 266)
RAM 800MHz (up from 667) 4-4-4-12 (up from 3-3-3-12)

CPU-Z reports my rated FSB at 1335.7 Mhz.

Have I done anything crazy?

Best,

That's all correct. The PCIE should be locked at 100Mhz. Some people notch it to 101Mhz but best keep it to 100Mhz afaik.

Not a big overclock on the CPU though, you can probably go a lot higher. :)

You should be ok with getting 8 * 400 (3.2Ghz). Just watch out for your RAM and use dividers to keep the ram around 667Mhz.

EDIT: Just read it's not G0 stepping. Watch out for your temps.

So at present you over clock is 3.2 as your ram is now running at 800mhz (2x400=800mhz) Presently your ram is running at 6400 speed
400x8=3200 (3.2Ghz)

have you unlinked your ram? This will allow you to over clock your CPU possibly further without over clocking your ram.

If you have the CPU and ram running in sync your ram will most probably top out before you have been able to achieve your max CPU O/C

When you have achieved the maximum over clock for you CPU then attempt to find the max over clock of your ram by tightening/ loosening the timings

EDIT: Just read it's not G0 stepping. Watch out for your temps.

As mint sauce states as you are using a B3 watch the temps using coretemp

Hi there JimpsED,
I'm in the same boat as you - only bult my first system a few weeks ago and did my first OC today :) I dont meen to hijack your thread (us newbies need to stick together lol) but could some of you more experienced guys cast your eyes over my numbers aswell:

Cheers guys

I haven't spotted any dividers in the BIOS (anywhere!) - any idea what they are?

RAM is currently at 800MHz - PC-6200 iirc? From what I have read, this is fine for Crucial Ballisitx PC-5200 RAM

Hi ramsden,

I too am getting fairly poor temperatures. I have a Thermatake Ultra-120 and it is seated properly.

Currently clocked to 2.8GHz (ratio 7, FSB 400Mhz).

Core temps are 54 / 55 / 49 / 50 on idle.

Core Temp reports that my CPU frequency is 3300MHz (514*7) - how can this be, when it is set to 400Mhz in the BIOS and shows as 400MHz in CPUZ (with rated FSB 1600Mhz)?

Hi again,

My temps at idle (right now) are 31/33/28/28, 3.2 GHz (356*9). Must admit though, my room is pretty chilly :) As you can see from above, I am running the G0 rev.

Edit: Certainly looks a bit odd - not seen this before but i am new to all of this

Is there anything in your bios about cpu performace - i changed a setting (can't remember what it was now) from turbo to standard I think. Don't know if you have anything like that?
