My first overclock!!!!! Cast your eye first...

Guys,
Rig as in sig below. Ran Prime 95 for four hours at stock with no bomb outs.

So,I am going to overclock the memory tomorrow. I am currently at 800 (2 x 400) with 5-5-5-15. Can I just leave the CPU as it is and clock the memory on its own and tinkerwith the CPU later on? I thought of configuring the BIOS to 4-4-4-12 as a first try. What do you reckon? Is that too ambitious? Or must I do some tinkering with the CPU as well.

In short, tell me my first shot in this battle !!!! I have seen a similar thread to this but can't find it.

What I would do is drop your RAM multiplier a notch and start pushing your FSB up a bit to overclock your CPU as that's where the main gains are.

Why are those two parameters related? Whats the memory got to do with the FSB?

Bewildering this but I am a keen learner !!!!!

The FSB on most boards controls CPU speed (with the CPU multiplier) and RAM speed (with the RAM divider).

what sort of increments are we taking about dude? 10Mhz at a time? 5 ? I am going to do some googling about this....

Limit yourself to about 50MHz jumps in processor speed if your not sure of your chips overclockability.
