Hi Guys,

Below is my new system. Only got it built yesterday and switched it on briefly last night. I am looking to overclock it when I get the time

Antec P180 case
Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz
Zalman CNPS9500-LED CPU Cooler 10
Maxtor Diamond Max SATA2 350Gb
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
BFG 8800GTS OC2 320MB
Antec NEO HE500GB 500W Modular PSU
HP W2207 22" Widescreen TFT Monitor

I have updated the BIOS to F6 and installed all the latest drivers. After reading the forums, I believe I should be doing the following before overclocking.

"1. Make sure that you have the latest chipset drivers and flash the board to the most recent bios version
2. On the main bios screen press Ctrl+F1 to open the advanced options within the menus
3. In the Advanced Bios Features Menu, Disable all of the following: CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E), CPU Thermal Monitor 2(TM2), CPU EIST Function
4. In the PC Health Status menu, set the FAN Speed Control Method to "Legacy" & FAN Speed Control Mode to "PWM" to maintain highest speed
5. Go into the MB Intelligent Tweaker (MIT) menu at the bottom of the page, set the System voltage control to "Manual"
6. These boards have a default VDIMM of 1.8v, set the VDIMM to co-ordinate with your ram. The Geil I have is specced as 2.1v so I have mine set to +0.3v
7. Set the MCH Voltage to +0.1v
8. Set the FSB Voltage to +0.1v
9. Set the VCORE to 1.45v - Please be aware that this will increase temps!
10. Set the CPU Host Clock Control to "Enable"
11. Set the System Memory Multiplier to "2x"
12. You're set to go, just increase the System bus Frequency to Overclock
13. I would recommend that you use Intel's TAT to monitor temps"

Question from the above list is about number 6. Does that mean I have to set my memory to 2.4v? So the memory is overclocked by 0.3v?

Following doing these steps, my understanding is that I crank up the FSB until it becomes unstable? Then take it back down abit?

One thing I have noticed is the the CPU core speed is incorrect (reading 2000.2Mhz). Is this because the multiplier is reduced when idle and only goes up when underload? (I'm sure I read this somewhere but cant find it!)

Thanks in advance for your help.

If your RAM is rated at 2.1v and you have increased the default of 1.8v by 0.3v then it will be set at 2.1v (1.8 + 0.3 =2.1).

You're incorrect clock speed will be due to speedstep, I assume.

Yes, increase your FSB until unstable (check using Prime95) though it should be easier for you as a lot of people on here have overclocked that CPU, whereas I was OCing an AMD which is far less common.
I also had to alter Vcore, Chipset voltage and RAM timings. Every system is different and its kind of trial and error. Give yourself a couple of days to find optimum settings and make sure you're running prime for about 8 hours to ensure stability.

Oh, and change your stock CPU cooler to something a bit more efficient and watch your CPU temps.
