My first overclock

Is it supposedly hard to overclock a Q9550? I had no problem getting it to 4GHz, is there something I am not aware of?

I thought it was quite the opposite - most people seem to have achieved good overclocks easily.
I just didnt have the time nor need to go any further, stable at 3.2 without changing the V or hitting 45C is fine with me =]

Ive found it relatively easy so far, albeit im only at 425 fsb for 3.6ghz, prime95 small fft stability was very straightforward, but blend was a bit trickier, i had to up the PLL, VTT, and NB voltages a bit, maybe if leaving everything on auto, bar the vcore. I think 4ghz would be straightforward. I personally dont like leaving any of the voltages on auto, as my board tends to feed things to much juice.

Surely a Q6600 should be able to do 3ghz on stock volts???

Every last cpu recently iv had, E2200, E6550 and now this E5200 have all hit 3ghz on stock and higher, heck this E5200 hit 3.5ghz before i had to boost volts..

Id advise the original poster, to put the volts back to stock and see if it will boot, if not slowly increase one step at a time till it does..

You really should'nt need 1.4volts to boot at 3ghz.

I made the mistake of having volts on auto but now i have taken them down and it is stable i forgot to take a screenshot of prime95 but after 12 hours it was all ok and my temps were 61/61/60/59 under load.
