Hi guys

So I've had several Pc's over the years mostly from Dell either towers or all in ones, my current Pc is starting to show it's age.
I use my Pc every day for at least 6 hours or more for a wide range of things Youtube/Gaming/Photoshop/Paperwork Etc... & while I have had extra time on my hands I thought (this is were boredom set in during lockdown) what a good idea to build my own how hard could it be lol.
I spent what feels like weeks & weeks looking at Youtube videos Reviews/Builds & searching websites for the right case parts etc... here's a list below of what I came up with so far.

CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 3600X 3.8 GHz 6-Core Processor
CPU Cooler - NZXT KRAKEN Z73 73.11 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard - Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory - Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory
Storage #1 - Seagate BarraCuda 4 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive
Storage #2 - Samsung 860 QVO 2 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage #3 - Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive
Video Card - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8 GB Video Card
Case - NZXT H710i ATX Mid Tower Case (in Black)
Power Supply - Corsair RMx (2018) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

Ok so that's the main of it, there are some other cosmetic pieces I have picked out which I will list later I just wanted to see if I was on the right track with what I have picked out so far or if I put all this together it's going to create a small Looney Tunes Acme Explosion any comments good or bad are much appreciated.
I will keep the post updated with photos of my progress fingers crossed I don't end up getting my sledgehammer out of the shed.

What sort of Photoshop work are you doing? What sort of image files? That Ryzen 5 3600X is pretty low spec for Photoshop work, I think you need to "up" that.

RAM is ok.

The RTX 2060 Super is ok.

Which of your storage drives will be doing what job? eg OS, Project, Scratch, Data etc?

Hello and good luck with your PC build if you have bought the parts already.
If the list is what you plan on buying, alternatives can be suggested to give better value if you have set a budget.

@Coojeekitten thanks for your replies :) mainly doing invoicing & when I get time try to dabble in Graphic design nothing to fancy. File types I mainly use BMP, PDS, & so on what CPU would you suggest? I have been an intel user but I was edging towards AMD should I stick with intel?

Storage #1 - Seagate BarraCuda 4 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive - This will be my main drive for files/photos etc...
Storage #2 - Samsung 860 QVO 2 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive - this I'm not sure yet?
Storage #3 - Samsung 970 Evo 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive - This will be my Boot Drive

@Grimley thx for your reply buddy :) I have only ordered the case so far hence my post I wanted to get some more experienced feedback to see where to amend any items on my list if I needed to.
I know there are better value parts on the market but the vain part of me wanted the build to look as good as I could make it without going into thousands & thousands.

I mentioned in my post about the Intel i9-9900K. Bang for buck, it's the best for Photoshop. AMD tends to be better for games.

Check the below chart from Puget Systems:

The i9-9900K is in the top few percent in performance, but significantly cheaper than the AMD's above it but which are only very slightly quicker.

You probably don't need specific project & scratch drives, so maybe consider a 1tb M.2 boot drive, then maybe a 4tb SSD for storage?

You could well be correct. I didn’t check that one!
Yeah think the 3900x is cheaper than 9900k
Obviously you are right the 3950x and thread ripper are more expensive though
Still a really hard time recommending
A 9900k other than being able to get
5ghz out of it with good cooling
It's a dead end platform
If you already had one it's still a lot of cpu
And good for years to come
But as a new build would recommend amd
Though not looked at any of the new intel series yet to see what's on offer from those

Why get the 9900k when the new 10700k is out which is cheaper than a 3900x and boosts slightly higher than a 9900k and is still an 8/16 core part.

I'd wait until the end of this week, by which time reviews will be out for the new intel CPU's.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £760.46 (includes shipping: £10.50)

These four bits. TOO expensive!
Alternatives:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £404.46 (includes shipping: £10.50)

NZXT 710i is an OK case, but the Phanteks P600s is a better case for almost £50 less. Rest of the spec is OK though.

@Coojeekitten thanks for the Graph that does help I know when I set out with this I was leaning towards the AMD the only thing that put me off was an old review saying that it sometimes had issues reading the RAM form the motherboard.
I know with the amount of Photoshoping I do I don't need to go crazy but looking at the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X that seems to cover what I will use it for & just over £100 less your thoughts?

@Grimley thx for those alternatives I know I may cut back on a couple of items as they are high ticket but only if the cost does restrict other parts of my build.
I'm at that age now where if I'm going do something I would rather do it right & build it to how I would prefer it to perform & look its the go big or go home attitude lol but again this is a new learning curve for me so one step at a time :)

On the NZXT H710i I was toying with 3 or 4 cases but I just really like the way this case looked but you are correct it is very expensive for what you get.

Q. before I bite the bullet & make a final decision on the CPU I'm looking into the fans now for the NZXT H710i & as far as I can see I was going to mount the CPU KRAKEN Z73 at the front & then add 3x 120mm Aer Rgb 2 on the roof & 1x 140mm Aer Rgb2 fan at the rear.
I think the case comes with a control unit for these or Would I need to buy a separate quad-channel internal LED controller?
Also, could I get away with 140mm fans on the roof or is that pushing things too far thanks in advance :)

If I read the specs right, the Smart device included with the case will control the RGB for up to 10 NZXT fans, (5 per channel) so its RGB for 10 fans or 5 fans & 6 RGB Strips. 140mm fans for the roof aren't a good idea IMO because of their much higher airflow. Mounting the AIO in the front is not advised either, because it looks like the fans are pushing the air into the radiator. In an ideal world you want cool air coming in from the front of the case & then as the PC components heat up, the air inside the case (which the GFX card will be the biggest culprit) Warm air will of course rise to the top of the case. Said warm air will be sucked out by the 140mm fan at the Rear & whatever size fans in the roof. As regards airflow, you want more air coming in than going out, otherwise dust will be sucked in via any gaps in the case that do not have filters.

My advice is to mount the AIO in the roof, & have 3x140mm fans. (1 in the back, 2 in the front) if you want the best cooling inside the case.

If you did what I thought you planning to do, You'd have all the fans sucking air out of the case, or the fan at the back sucking air out and the roof fans sucking air in :p Not a good idea.

I'll let this guy explain: ;)

Right so I've been trying to hunt down a motherboard & CPU but everywhere is either overpriced or out of stock of the two that I wanted
should I hold out & wait till these come back in or can you advise on some alternatives :)

Current Stock & prices
CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz 12-Core Processor - £411
Motherboard - Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming ATX AM4 Motherboard - £342.49
