Good morning all, This is my first post, so apologise if it is in the wrong area, Mods, please move if you feel it should be somewhere else!

Ok, I have been reading about building a PC for a few months now, and finally bought all the bits and bobs, from overclockers last week. Putting all the bits together was easy, following advice from on here (well easy, still took me about 4 hours! as i tip toe'd around the motherboard)

Anyway eventually got everything fired up (after an hour of nothingness, as i had forgot to actually power the cpu, yes please laugh guys and gals!)

Here is what i bought, and underneath some questions!

Seasonic S12 600w silent ATX 2.0 power supply
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit edition
Samsung SH-S182D 18x Dvd re writer
BFG nForce 680 socket 775 PCI express DDR2 mobo
Intel core 2 Duo E6600
BFG Geforce 8800 GTS
Western digital raptor 36gb
OCZ 2GB PC2-8500
Akasa Mirage 62

Now as i say i have it all set up, HOWEVER a couple of issues, that i am really struggling with!

The Akasa case can connect to the Mobo for sound, however the parts on the mobo board are named different to the parts on the case, so has anyone attached them together?

Case
R-Ret
R-out
l-Ret
L-out
Mic-power
Mic-in
Ground

Mobo
Port1_L
Aud_GND
Port1_R
Presence_J
Port2_R
Sense1_Return
Sense_send
Empty
Port2_L
Sense_return

Any ideas how i connect these up?

Secondly, i bought Norton Antivirus 2007 and cant get it to load on Windows Vista? i tried the Norton site but no joy?

Thirdly, I want to use some of the tools for the MoBo Ntune etc, but when i try to load them to vista, and then access them it says that i am not an administrator? even though i am in the user settings!

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers

Jamie

Hi there, firstly its going to take me a second to get my head around the sound connectors so i will get back to that.

For the Ntune issue, right click the icon , or shortcut to Ntune , and you should see the option to run as administrator :) you can also set this permemnatly in the properties -> compatibility section on the right click menu.

As for norton, i dont know if it is compatible with Vista , but unless its been updated since i dont remember it being compatible. But seriously one note, norton is a load of rubbish , it saps your performance massivly - i would advise downloading Free AVG, which is free - and works with Vista ( im using it now ).

Right , i will get back to you about connectors .. :)

Nomisf,

Excellent for getting back to me, however, i am obviously being a bit thick, i tried to get the Nvidid control panel as a shortcut...... at the moment i have to right click on the desktop, then select it, i cant seem to be able to get it as a shortcut to the desktop?

And where do i find the Properties - compatibility menu? as you can see brand new to Vista, and really struggling.... i am sure ill get the hang of it, just driving me nuts at the mo!

cheers for all your help!

the audio pinout on your motherboard is for a hdaudio front panel. you should be able to fit the connector from your case (regular audio, right?) and you should also be able to select between hd audio and ac97 audio in your bios somewhere:)

the connectors are pin-conpatible. you should have a pin missing in the motherboard socket, and a blanked hole in the connector from the case. it'll plug straight in. You just have to find that setting in the bios to get it working:)

i wish it was that simple.... it seems on the akasa case, the pins are all individual, they are not all together in one snap in clip.

Ill have to manually attach each cable....

ah sorry , im not to familiar with the Nvidia stuff. Surely the right click menu on the desktop, then -> Nvidia control pannel isnt giving you any problem ?

Maybe if you could include a screenshot (screen grab) :) would be cool.

Or describe the steps you go through to get the problem.

And dont worry about "being a bit thick". We are here to help :) and were all in your position once.

Rgds,

thanks james, however that still does not tell me what to connect to each pin....

I need to know from my case pins
Case
R-Ret
R-out
l-Ret
L-out
Mic-power
Mic-in
Ground

what they correspond to on the mobo pins

Mobo
Port1_L
Aud_GND
Port1_R
Presence_J
Port2_R
Sense1_Return
Sense_send
Empty
Port2_L
Sense_return

basically i need them mapped

cheers

its there in that chart mate. the pins are numbered in the picture to corrispond to the ac97 connector pins.

4 AUD_GND Ground used by analog audio circuits (ground)
5 FP_OUT_R Right channel audio signal to front panel (headphone drive capable) (r-out)
6 FP_RETURN_R Right channel audio signal return from front panel (when headphones unplugged) (r-ret)
7 AUD_5V Filtered +5 V used by analog audio circuits

Norton 2007 works fine with vista, however I believe it was updated and some boxes will show that you have to download an update to get it to work if you have an older boxed copy. I always buy it from the USA as a download as it works out cheaper that way.
