I have just been playing around with overclocking my Pentium D 930, finally after getting my water cooling sorted properly. check these screens:

I've had to increase the voltage very slightly since those screens as 3D Mark 06 crashed in the CPU test. but its all good now :)

i think i could most likley push it a bit further? any tips?

Also i tried pushing my 7800GT up to 500MHz, but this coused 3DMark 06 to crash, my thoughts are that it was unstable, probably due to lack of voltage.. would i be correct, and if so if volt modding fairly safe?

cheers guys

Hmm i think i know what i need to do, and i have a fair knowledge of what i'm doing, but always unsure.. but i don't really have the money to replace it if i do break it.. although it would give me a good excuse to get a better card :D

:) thankyou.. i can't seem to be able to get much further above that.. was trying to hit 4.5, but 4.35 was as far as i was prepared to go (bit of a chicken) but i had to increase the voltage loads, and i didn't like the temperatures it was reaching at full load.

what sort of temperatures do i want to start worrying at? is 50 a bit hight for dual core pentiums.. i know my opld Prescott used to run at 60 odd :S, but didn't think the new dual cores ran so hot?

Now that is something i didn't know! i decided to get the 930 over the 830 because it was only £20 more and it had an extra meg of cache per core. only noticed that it was using the 65nm architecture the other day when having a look at CPUZ. now am much happier i spent that extra 20 :)

Nice O/C - have you primed it? If yes which test are for how long?

I havn't primed it, havn't got round to trying out that test.. i found a Stability test a while ago "CPU Stability Test 0.6 (Gilgamesh)" which seems to do a nice job and keeping both cores loaded, don't know if its well known. had that running for a couple of hours.. havn't had it running for any longer as i use my computer a lot, work etc. Its been on for over a day though without any glitches, should run a proper test.

The problem i had was when i pushed my CPU up any further CPU Stability Test 0.6 (Gilgamesh) would restart my PC withing the 1st minute of testing.

I always had the impression that software overclocks are frowned upon?

I too have that impression generally, never had much luck with trying to over clock in windows.. i just us AiBooster as a good tool to measure temperatures and voltages etc, i have no other use for it

cool cheers i'll give that a shot.. i also want to see if i can get my memory latency down a little... I'm currently running Corsair TwinX DDR2-6400 at a latency of 5-5-5-15 i think :S its a bit pants, but then 1. i couldn't afford low latency DDR2 and 2. DDR2 isn't very low latency any way as far as i can tell its all about the speed?

Isn't it that for AMD's because there processors have a better latency than intel that lower latency RAM is better, and because intel generally has more "horse power" that higher memory speeds are more benificial over lower latency.... obviously in both cases you have to find the optimum balance
