did my first 10 mile tt today on my nearly stock allez and scared the hell out some of the experienced riders. was aiming for 27/28 mins and got 26.05 so im really happy :)
i recommend road cycling to anyone everyone is so friendly

Thats a good time, I recently did 10 miles in a time trial on my full suspension mountain bike and got a time of 34mins, just wondering how much time I could save with a proper road bike. I am looking at getting something like the Giant OCR2 or maybe the Trek 1000. 26minutes seems like a very good time to me especially for your first go at it.

ye it was a pretty good time. some of the pros with like 5 grand bikes and full aero kit did around 23 mins. but they are around 25 and im 17 so a while to get up to speed yet

The only thing you have to contend with when you get older is the weight issue :) When I was 17 I was a very slim 10 stone, now after going to the gym for close to 3 years and bulking up I am 14 stone. I just started back into mountain biking and road racing this year and believe me I am a lot fitter now than I was when I was 17, but I don't half notice the extra 4 stone of weight!!

Maybe i should take up road cycling to work :(

Went my usual route to work, lauched off a big stairset i do daily, wind blew me sidewards........really sore lol.

Scratches on my shoulder, shoulder blade,my side, thigh and my (previosuly broke in 3 places ) foot is killing me,lots of pedal holes in my shins

Made a mental note not to do it in gales again ;)

That's a nice first time there Breamy. I used to race a lot when I was younger started when I was about 14 I think. My best ever time was 22:40, so if you keep at it you should be able to beat that :) It took a few seasons for me to get down that far though.

What's your local course like? What road do you race on?

I dunno if i could cope going from 2.3" tyres with 20psi to 0.5" things that wipe out like no other in the wet
Go for something that has around 1.6/1.8" tyres as they're normally good on both surfaces. Won't be as good on rough terrain like you current bike, but will be a lot more useful on the road.

I did a brisk 45 km This morning, twas a lovely ride and am putting in some milage at the moment. I was hevy at 13 stone 9, but am losing weight like billyoh at the moment, currently 12 stone 10 (I am 6'2" so still can lose a bit of fat)

I can do 90km at roughly 32/32 kmph.

I must must must do a 'ten'. I reckon i would be near 25 mins, but i could be quicker. At the moment however i have to concentrate on rowing (qualifying for henley) so cycling is taking a back seat.

Good to see a few roadies on here! Shall we start a post a pic of your road bike thread?

Only problem with road cycling and roadies (this is a generalisation) is that they seem to lack the social aspect that you find in mountain biking.

Seem to look down upon people with tyres wider than a nanometer for sure :p

You cant really generalise but i stopped on my local trail to look at my forks when some numpty flew up the inside and nearly took my head off! On the stolen Scott genius i think aswell :(

I try to remain polite but if i wanna go fast.....i will get past you by all means!

well i have to disagree there. turned up to the tt the other day and everyone was so friendly it was unbeleiveable. also if im on my mtb i will get a nod or wave from raodies. ive never found an inpolite one. they are always willing to help out if you are lost as well

Must depend on location aswell i guess. Most round here are pretty inconsiderate. Most bikers keep to themselves which is a bit of a ****.
