Serious request for serious suggestions for names.

The pub has a micro brewery in the basement and both the pub and the brewery will be reopening in month or so after refurbishment.

Location: near student accommodation/college/offices etc and almost town centre (Leeds) should have a good mix of young and not so young.

Getting rid of pool table (attracts wrong clientele) but probably keeping live music. It will offer out of the ordinary lagers and real ale .... ie NOT Carling, Fosters, Guinness etc but Belgian, Dutch, German lagers and a selection of local small brewery ales.

My mate will be taking this on and is stuck for good names for the two businesses. He wants to get some publicity stuff organised soon so what can you clever people come up with?
Maybe someone can suggest something similar to the "debut album" thread for finding names?

ps any ideas on promoting real ale to the younger generation would also be appreciated; something like what happened with the rebirth of cider (Magners et al).

Thanks in advance.

on the live music front, the local ale pub near me has an irish music night every wednesday. The pub gets rammed and is a really top notch night.

on the name front id make the name of the pub the same as that as the ale being brewed as this will be unique to the place. Although no names come to mind yet.

On the attracting student front, you will be surprised by how many actually do drink ale. There may already be an ale society at the university so there may be a first point of call for potential customers.

hope this helps

**** and Bull...

but since there will be students and non, something like The Registry is cool (only because the one in Portsmouth is great!)

Also get some cider on tap, even strongbow, as students love to nosh it down. Well we did a year ago at uni.

And the good thing about students is word of mouth, if lots of them go there then more and more friends come along.

On the name front call it something wild like 'THE ROFLCOPTER', or 'LUL'

good point, even getting non mainstream cider on tap is worth it. As long as it is easily drinkable(as some ciders are really strong and nothing like normal mainstream cider etc.) Cider i had recently was kingsford press, which is similar to that of magners but just tastes better.

KINGSTON PRESS, OM NOM GULP :D

Used to have that at my local pub that was next to my house in 2nd year at uni. Big bottles (600ml) were about £2.40 and were ALWAYS selling out if the pub was pretty busy, and went like hotcakes in the summer. Their strongbow pump was broken for about 2 years and kinston press kept them afloat :D

As norman suggested maybe look at getting another cider on tap. Can't think of names off the top of my head, but aspels is in a few pubs in London and is quite nice. But kingston is more towards the Magners taste, but nicer. Magners in bottles is overpriced in my eyes at about £4, and just something people drink to look stylish 'Look at me cider'.

Students are a lucrative market as they have lots of loan money and daddy's mone to spend on drink, make them spend it in yours. Maybe contact the students union at *** uni and look at maybe getting a pre-club thing sorted with them for one night of the week. Student nights at clubs are normally Mon-Thurs so it could be a good way to get lots of money in mid-week.

The Steven Hawk Inn.

regarding real ale, you could produce flyers but more akin to club flyers which will suit a younger market better. You could maybe get the artistic talent at the local uni/colleges to design them with a prize for each months (say) winning design (will help promote your pub too, wonder what the prize could be :)). Off the top of my head I can think of the 'made in britain' approach (picture of a spitfire for example), or the local community approach (local landmarks), or the comedy route (picture of unnaturally large breasts ;)).

Well for a start you should be looking at one household name that will double up as the brewery, so for example if the pub was called "Barn Door" the bewery would be "Barn Door Brewery"

It would make advertising and such a lot easier to have the same name for both, that way people wont think their seperate companys.

As for names for you should try and think for something neutral that will draw both young and old.

Anagrams are a good way of coming up for name, for instance an anagram of "Brewery Pub" would be "Rubbery Pew"

The Rubbery Pew! I would love to try that place out if it existed!
