I did use a tripod. I dont have any sort of flash equipment that I could have used to help. Just me and my camera. I did play around in photoshop for a bit but my skills are lacking. What do you reckon it needs in PS?

Pretty good - would have been nice to get rid of the cellophane though. I think you were reading my mind, I've just finished shooting some daffodils my GF bought. Will post in a sec.
That improves things 100%. Another "trick" is to use a small reflector to bounce light back onto the flower and the tripod will allow a greater depth of field e.g. http://milouvision.net/forum/CRW_0203-01ab.jpg
