My First SSD and im scared help!

That is not a good idea. You should secure erase if reinstalling Windows - this will bring the drive back to maximum performance levels.

Doesnt seem to have caused me any issues and seems just as quick as in the previous build.

Atto test on a G41 mobo (no AHCI option).

Could someone please guide me on how to update the Firmware on the OCZ Vertex2E?

Ive been trying to determin this via this link but im so confused!

http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?81034-OCZ-Sandforce-1.24-Firmware-update

Do i need to boot off my installation disk to do this and can it be done after Windows is installed?

What about intel RST drivers, do i need these as well?

Thanks

I upgraded mine before I did the swap to the new build and it bricked the then installed W7, the upgrade itself was simple and if you can connect it as a slave drive in a different machine first that would be the best option.

Ive installed several SSDs now and have done nothing different to a normal install and have had no issues and get expected speeds. Defrag is turned off in W7 by default if its an SSD, and for me pagefile etc can stay on the SSD as I only ever 40-50% fill it anyway.

Helpful post for Steam and SSDs I found elsewhere

That steam post looks useful but it's missing images, got a link to the original thread?

Visualising your availalbe space can help you track down what/where is using lots of space:-

That looks good, I've been using Disk Space Fan to visualise my SSD and find out where all the space is going and then free it up, it's absolutely brilliant.

pepp77, your 4kB writes and reads are pretty poor (100/56) - mine are about double yours (172/129). Could be the controller and IDE mode but that doesn't change the fact that a Secure Erase before (re)installing Windows is the best thing to do with these drives.

More and more and more of these threads are starting to appear about STEAM only being able to selectively install your games to whichever partition the client is installed. They need release an updated client to solve this issue, like myself i would designate my favourite games to my SSD and games that i play on and off to my hard disk drive.
Oh and +1 for a steam update, this seems a really stupid option at the moment and would probably be pretty easy for them to implement.
The option of moving games to and from the SSD within steam would also be REALLY useful.
